Hi all,

I was recording an event and after it finished I clicked "stop recording". By mistake, I clicked again, so it forced to be closed, and as a result I have only half of the event in the output file.

Is it fixable? Is the original recording somehow somewhere?

Regards,
Alejandro

If you recorded directly to MP4, the finalization process was cancelled so the recording is lost. This is why it is never recommended to record to MP4, record to a crash safe format like MKV and remux afterwards.

Yes, the MKV should be mostly intact. If the encoder was lagging behind realtime though it may have missed recording whatever was still in the buffer. A tool like MKVMerge may help to extract valid audio / video from the MKV.

Hi R1CH,

I believe there is no solution because when trying to extract the audio only, it is only 50 minutes long (as the incomplete MKV file I already have)

After some research I believe now that the problem was this:

So since the finalization process was cancelled and as the encoding was overloaded, I guess it didn't "completed" the output file.

Does that make sense?
