I dont have any applications running its just OBS but for some reason it keeps telling me that the update failed because OBS-virtualcam-module32.dll is still in use.

I can confirm that I have neither of these services running, and that exact same error hits me as well when trying to update.

Try seeing if you have any capture card related services running, as I had to disable my Razer Ripsaw USB Port Checker even though it's not even plugged in.

I'm having the same issue. I not only disabled the webcam in my device manager but I've closed everything running in my system tray aside from java, device manager, adobe, and windows defender. I've even unplugged the webcam itself and it still says the virtual cam is being used. Zoom has been uninstalled, and still it says the virtual cam is being used.

If you still are unable to update, run the OBS 26.1 installer from the website, it'll tell you exactly which program is using the virtual camera.

I have the same problem. I'm trying to update OBS to version 26.1 and a error message appearance "Update failed: obs-virtualcam-module32.dll is still in use" I closed every program and it still the same. Is an error of the update? or is a problem of my windows 10?

Add FB Messenger and any Adobe video editing software to the list. I closed those and it worked. Don't know which was the culprit but it could have been either one.

i literally registered just to say thanks that was perfect. installer told me exactly what it was (AverMedia service) and after shutting that down installed no problem.
