my understanding (not my area of expertise, so be sure to confirm what I wrote for yourself)
1. you do NOT 'interact' with Window, Display, Game capture (ie ... simply capturing video output). you aren't supposed to interact with such sources in the OBS window, only composite / display them. So, in general (meaning there are exceptions), you should NOT be trying to interact with Sources in OBS Studio
2. there are rare occasions where interacting with a web source is desired inside OBS Studio, in which case you use the OBS Browser Source instead (best to read up on limitations/caveats of that browser)
Best practice is to use multiple monitors so *if* you need to see/interact with OBS Studio interface *AND* other screen applications, you do so on either a large screen, or multiple monitors, so you can see both 'application windows' at the same time.
For those with a single monitor, and no budget and/or space to attach a 2nd display, then that is where you see discussions of Stream Decks (for macro/automation triggers), hotkeys, etc
