I've got an i5 4570 with a gtx750 ti and a (as several speedtests confirm) 1.9mbit upstream.
So I used the x264 at 1700 with 720p and 48fps. At first it didn't really work half a day then all of a sudden I could stream a whole 4 hours World of Warcraft without any framedrops or CPU problems. My cpu is bored the whole time anyways. Without stream its around 10% and with streaming around 40%.
Two days later I ran the same options and I couldn't get a solid stream running. I dropped frames all the time. So I lowered to 1550 and I even lowered to 30fps - which just made it worse?!
Now I just tried streaming Diablo3. Which was a complete mess since whenever I switch back to my windowed Diablo3 OBS just records sound and the video will be a screenshot of the moment when I alt-tabbed back into the game.
Then I switched x264 to nvenc just because I have literally tried everything that could think of. And all of a sudden I can get a solid framerate again. I can even stream this at 1550 without major lags. I can even record it 1080p 60fps 3500kbit which x264 couldnt handle at all with Diablo3.
So my questions are the following:
Do I need to switch and try out every encoder on every game to see which one actually provides me with a solid framerate? Because WoW runs fine on x264 and Diablo fine on nvenc. I also had huge problems on Borderlands 2 with x264.
Also Bilinear on WoW a mess! Lanczos runs smooth.
and is there something up with my bandwidth that I don't know about yet that wrecks my 1550kbit stream on almost 2mbit upstream? and more importantly: how do I find out what could be up that way.
I am really thinking about upgrading to 6mbit or 10mbit, but oc only if it's really a problem with my bandwidth.
and third:
720p 30fps or 48fps and 1550kbit 92/128bit aac Lanczos
should be halfway decent shouldn't it?
I am really so confused about these options in OBS. I am not a complete newb at hardware stuff and I know a few things about bitrates and encoding options. But the things I have tired out and the mostly contradicting results I have gotten freak me out. I can't work with the Twitch tutorial options because nothing works with those on my machine. And then sometimes it works fine for 10 minutes and then all goes to the bin. Can someone give me some better steps on how I can find out which options are best for me? This trial and error seems dodgy.
