I have been suffering stutter with OBS for months, and also reading thread upon thread upon thread that leads nowhere. I dread to think how many hours I have spent testing, and the awful part of it is that it takes up to 30 minutes for every test as that's how long it takes for the stutter to occur. I have now TWICE managed to display a stable HDMI-OUT 1080p 50fps fullscreen preview for over 90 minutes, and I haven't even witnessed a single frame-drop (unless I blinked at the wrong times). I am very happy and have made a system backup. I discovered this just in time as I was being led to believe my RX580 was letting me down, and I was starting to browse high end GPUs and even Atem minis (dedicated chromakey hardware).
I am exhausted to be honest, and want to take a break from testing, but I hope in the next few weeks I can narrow it down and be certain what resolved it.
The following points "might" have played a part, starting with the most likely (in my very unqualified opinion). I am only using OBS for the preview and effects along with a camera - no gaming or streaming.
1. OBS build 28.0.0 Beta 1
2. OBS process priority "HIGH".
3. Changing OBS audio output and device in video-capture-device properties. (Just seen that it's currently on Xsplit audio broadcaster).
4. Radeon settings - change GPU workload from "graphics" to "compute" / vsync always on.
Yes, I ended up installing Xsplit Vcam and broadcaster, Wirecast, and Vegas Pro 20 trial for tests, so there is also a suspicion that something got installed with those programs that has cured the stutter. I did try today to eliminate all these points, but it's gonna take a while to do it properly.
Many seem to have problems with preview stutter, and i hope that someone may benefit from my discovery. Thanks
(I will update here if I manage to find the culprit).
