Question / Help I am NEW to OBS

Hey there,

I'm new to the OBS community and video streaming, if I'm being honest.
I am just wondering where a good place to start? I have an upcoming project where I want to live stream a talk using two angles, a webcam, and google slides. During the live stream I want to cut/switch from one angle to another.

Can OBS do this? If not, what else?

I have a mac book pro 2015 with HighSierra. The sound equipment I have to record vocals are 2 mics, 2 XLRs, Zoom H6. I also have a canon 5D mark ii, and a canon 80D. I've been doing my research and I was wondering if there is any other hardware I might need that you could recommend? (e.g Black Magic Mini Recorder)

OBS can indeed do this.

As for the Canon cameras, you're going to need multiple mini recorders to capture multiple cameras. The cameras themselves don't impersonate webcams when plugged directly to the computer.

So im thinking for my setup:

Camera 1 --> HDMI --> Mini recorder 1 --> Thunderbolt --> MacBook
Camera 2 --> HDMI --> Mini recorder 2 --> Thunderbolt --> MacBook
Mic 1 --> XLR --> Zoom h6 --> USB --> MacBook
Mic 2 --> XLR --> Zoom h6 --> USB --> MacBook
Webcam --> USB --> Macbook

The gear above should stream live and record directly into my Macbook via OBS? Im also wanting to invite people via YoutubeLive. So this should be okay in theory? Is there any other hardware I am forgetting?

Lastly, does OBS have a 'share screen' funtion of some sort? Basically, my speakers will be talking on live camera whilst flipping through their google slide deck - so I want to cut between the three angles and the slide deck.

Yes, OBS can also capture your screen. In terms of connecting 2 cameras, 2 microphones and using a webcam, you may start to run into USB power and bandwidth issues - so keep that in mind. If you run into issues, try switching to different USB ports.

Thanks for the reply. I was also wondering if anyone could recommend any settings to optimise quality and speed (more speed than quality as I am hoping for atleast 30 people to log on to view the stream). Currently, my download speed is at 74.9 Mbps and upload speed is at 14.2 Mbps, all via Youtube Live. I am also switching between my two DSLR cameras, MacBook Pro Webcam, and a GoogleSlide Presentation.

If you're streaming to YouTube, it doesn't matter how many people are watching, your bandwidth requirements will be the same.

Running the Auto-Configuration Wizard from the Tools menu will ask you some questions and run some tests and suggest some baseline settings appropriate for your hardware and Internet connection.
