I accidently hit stop recording twice, is there anyway to recover the lost most of the mkv footage?

I didn't realize it was still formatting and accidently hit it again to start recording and now I'm in this mess.

Means that video was lost before you clicked Stop Recording button. In short - it wasn't recorded at all (nothing to recover).
