Question / Help How to still stream gameplay while alt-tabed ?

hey guys i saw some streamer on twitch using obs and when they are plying a game and they alt-tabed to look at something or replying chat, their game is still streaming/ playing in the background.. is that i way i can do that too? thanks!

Most games will keep rendering just fine if you run them in borderless window mode (window mode) for example. Thats the easiest solution I could think of. Fullscreen games will stop rendering when you tab-out as they are minimized.

Most games do not render anymore when you alt tab, at least in fullscreen. So if you want the game to still render stuff you will have to play in window or borderless window mode, so the game doesnt minimize but just isnt on top anymore.
Combined with gamecapture or window capture with aero on, the game will still show up and not freeze.

If there isn't an in game option, you will likely have to resort to a combination of changing game ini files and third party tools. I recommend googling "<name of game> windowed mode" for specific instructions per game.

Most modern games have an option in the settings, if they dont you can try setting their launch parameters and put -windowed in it, this should work with source engine games/gold source.
If they still dont have any way to use borderless window mode there is a tool on the steam forums that forces window mode games into borderless mode. Search for windowedborderlessgaming on there.
