How to start multiple recordings simultaneously?

Hi - I'm brand new to OBS (and any sort of streaming software) and plan to use it to record and edit interviews.

The way I'm thinking of doing it is to record 2-4 video sources in one Scene and then to put the recording of that back into OBS to re-record while switching between other graphically designed scenes. It would not be possible to do this well at the same time as being fully engaged with the interview.

However, the drawback with this would be that I'd be limited to a quarter of my maximum screen resolution per source. This is currently 2560p, meaning that each source would record at a maximum of 720p, which would be poor, especially when I want a speaker to appear full-screen.

I thought of an alternative, which would be to put each source into a separate Scene and use multiple instances of OBS to record each one. Then they could be of higher resolution. But as far as I'm aware, there isn't a feature in OBS to start all the video recordings simultaneously or to sync them afterwards, so the final result would be far from smooth.

Can anyone help?

Your second step of re-recording your video with scene switching is no job for OBS. Postprocessing existing footage is the job of a video editor. A video editor is much more comfortable than OBS, because in OBS you have the constraint of being live. You need to create your video in real time. With a video editor, you have as much time as you like to cut, rearrange and process your video.

There is a vast amount of video editors available, from free to multi-thousand-dollar ones. A very simple one even comes with Windows 10, search for "Video Editor" in the start menu.

Thanks Koala

It's actually an as-live thing that I want in the end, which would be MUCH easier to do in OBS. I'd do it live, but this would distract me from being fully present in the conversation.
