Question / Help How to Set Up In-game Sound

I set up my stream today, and got the video and mic figured out after a slight bit of trouble. However, no one can hear the game itself, only my voice. I was told by someone that it should be on by default, but regardless, that's not the case for me. How can I set up the Audio Settings, or scene or source, so that I can stream the in-game sounds as well as my mic?

I saw something about a virtual sound option, but I do not see that in my audio choices. I have Default (doesn't work), RealTek Digital Output (doesn't seem to do anything), AMD HDMI Output (also doesn't seem to do anything), and Speakers.

Any suggestions? I tried using the search, but it's pretty brutal. Hopefully my title will draw other people to this thread in future searches.

Edit: I might as well ask how to add other sound, such as music. I know there was a thread on how to remove that, but not set it up.

Gonna double-post this thang.

I continued screwing around with the audio settings, going through each option and whatnot. Eventually I got one to work. Default, in fact. I don't honestly know what got it working, but whatever. However, as a note to anyone who might find this later, be sure to stop your stream each time you change your desktop or mic sound option.

I'm still wondering how to add music, though. Simply iTunes (etc) through the desktop? Another scene or source?

If your primary/desktop audio device is set to your Default audio output device, then any program that outputs audio to that device will be output to your stream.

Yes, I did later find that out when I could hear other programs in my stream. Do I have to set up a special audio option in order to ignore other background sound?

Edit: I am now getting the error "Cannot initialize desktop audio sound, more info in the log file." Which closes the program. What can I do about that, and where is the log file? I don't see it in the OBS Program Files folder.

I do appreciate the response, and I should have checked for that error, however, I am also interested in a guide to remove certain background noises/programs.

That doesn't appear to be a complete log file. Make sure you've started the stream, livestreamed for a while, then stopped streaming and closed OBS to get a complete log.

As far as not recording background sound, you'll need to go with something like VAC (virtual audio cable) to separate out the audio streams, if it's possible with your programs. There's no way in OBS to natively ONLY record the game, or selectively not capture X program; it's just grabbing audio from the device you've set it to watch.

No, that was a full log, he can't initialize his audio because apparently his desktop audio device is unplugged.

What does this mean?

I have not removed (or added) any cables since I started. I have no speakers plugged in. I have a webcam and headset, both of which are working fine. Do you have any suggestions of what to look for?

Ah my apologies, I should have stated unplugged or exclusive mode. That error only happens when the device is either being used exclusively or is unplugged. If none of the other "desktop sound" devices work for you in audio settings then I'm not entirely sure admittedly
