Question / Help How To Record Games Smoothly?

Goal:
Record Minecraft, Garry's Mod, Counter Strike, etc in smooth 720p 30-60fps to upload to youtube.

Reality: Choppy footage..

With the default settings of OBS it records perfect but the quality is 480p. Please give me any recommendations on how to get my goal??

(Laptop)
Windows 10 Home
Intel Core i7-5500 CPU @ 2.40GHz
8GB RAM
64-bit operating system
NVIDIA GeForce 840M dedicated graphics
