Hi,
Im musician and mp3 is too much compression and it is really destroying my drum audio.
Is there a way to make obs record my videos to a loosless or .wav file?
Really thanks!

OBS doesn't record to MP3, it uses AAC. Set your bitrate to 320Kbps and extract the Core Audio AAC encoder from an Itunes installer if you don't have it installed. (If you don't have Itunes or QuickTime, you don't have it installed, you can specifically get only the codec portion by following the steps on this link.)

https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/obs-studio-enable-coreaudio-aac-encoder-windows.220/

If you still find it is too much compression/low quality then...

You can record to Wave(PCM) but it requires you to use Custom FFMpeg. I don't think the MP4 container supports PCM though, you may need to use a different container. I don't have much experience with the FFMpeg portion of OBS

Hi, thanks for your answer and thanks for your correction.
I will first try your last option, using wave pcm using custom ffmpeg.
If this dont work then I will try the other ideas.
I do have Quicktime player, is it enough or do I have to download it using the link?
I will try to find a video tutorial because I dont think I could do all the steps alone without making my pc to blow up :(

Really thanks again

Usually it is enough to just have Quicktime or Itunes, I personally extract just the Apple Application portion from the installer. You can open your OBS log and it will tell you if the Core Audio AAC encoder was found/loaded (or not)

00:36:00.268: [CoreAudio encoder]: CoreAudio AAC encoder not installed on the system or couldn't be loaded

I believe if you also hover over the bitrate combo box long enough it will say Core Audio AAC as a tooltip

ok, Ive tried using ffmpeg following this steps but I dont hear a difference in audio quality.
If I record my drums using protools I get a nice audio, but If I send protools sound (using a virtual cable) to obs im getting a compressed sound (mp3 or AAC like)
This is the setup Ive tried. Any ideas to get a better result before trying the quicktime steps? (on my log files it says I have not installed it)

I'm at work currently so I can't play with it. Key in 1,411 Kbps in the Audio bitrate section there.

PCM is supposed to be uncompressed, there is no bitrate, that section should be ignored. It's Bit depth and Sample Rate that defines the quality of PCM

If you feel you hear audio compression, that might also be a feature of your media player or by Windows sound settings itself (Windows sound->Playback tab->choose your device->Enhancement tab->deactivate all sound effects. This is for your speakers.
There is a similar setting for some recording devices as well (your mic), depending on the driver. Some have "enhancements", some do not.

Hi, thanks for your answer but if that was the case I should listen ALL my pc audio files and songs with that enhancement and im not. Im just experimenting a bottle neck on my audio quality only on my obs recordings. I think my fix is tweaking the audio output settings on obs.
Thanks!

Hey,
I ran into the same problem, having compressed audio when monitoring in OBS while monitoring from Pro Tools was fine.
The problem for me was coming from the virtual cable I was using (Reastream). I plugged cables from the outputs of my sound card to inputs 1&2 of my sound card and use now this physical loopback to get the sound from Pro Tools to OBS and it works greater than with ReaStream.

Voxengo Recorder was also better soundwise speaking but to use it as audio output capture was a bit annoying with multiple sources in OBS.

Please share your experiences with that problem, I'm still curious to know what other solutions exist !
