Question / Help How to record a second screen on the same monitor?

So for context I have 2 HDMI cables running into my monitor. 1 for my computer, and the other for my nintendo switch. Is it possible to record/stream the Nintendo Switch gameplay to my computer from the same monitor? Or is this something that requires a second monitor to set up correctly, or perhaps a certain capture card?

I've tried using methods with the 'Display Capture' function but haven't managed to find a way as of yet, and old reliable Google hasn't yielded any results.

If you record from your PC, you don't really record "a monitor" or what is displayed on the monitor. You don't pull any data from the monitor device. Instead, you record the signal that is sent out from the PC to the monitor. The PC knows nothing about what else is plugged into the monitor. To record the output of a different device, you need a capture card.
