Question / Help How to record 5.1 sound?

I don't believe that OBS supports 5.1 and as far as I am aware no streaming service (at least) supports 5.1 either. How were you thinking of using the 5.1 audio track?

Multiple audio tracks is for recording different sources on different tracks and not related to 5.1.

I recorded some of my videos using Dxtory in 5.1 using IEEE Float codec. And Youtube didn't mix it down to stereo, it was still 5.1 sound. I tested it by disconnecting front left and front right speakers, and I could still hear sounds on Youtube videos, so there is no mistake.

Why don't I use Dxtory? it can only record avi and for some reason it affects my FPS a lot more than OBS with the exact same x264 settings...

This is sad that even as big projects as OBS don't support 5.1 audio. It would be nice if OBS supported 3rd party codecs, like Dxtory does.

This is a difficult problem but it is possible to bypass it.
Be interested in Dolby ProLogic.
This particular system deals with hiding 5.1 audio in track 2.0 (stereo).
User with stereo hear all mixed to 2.0, and having a Dolby ProLogic will hear 5.1

Maybe you can somehow split out the channels in a way that OBS will recognize them as the additional audio inputs, then recombine them into a proper 5.1 audio stream in post.
