This is getting tiresome. I want to Stream and Record and not show my Overlay. Yes I could just go without an overlay, but then I'd alt tab more often, and as we know, Alt Tabbing can break some games.

So, definitive Answer, How is it Done, with Proof to back it up. It drives me insane that No one has worked it out to a T.

If you want to do it at the same time you would have to run a multi instance of OBS and creat a secondary scene collection. Primary obviously stays as it is now and the secondary will only consist of a game capture or window capture.

No I can Stream and Record at the same time, I just don't want OBS to ever Capture Steam Overlay unless that is My Choice.

Basically, If I want to chat to someone on Steam, I want to Shift+tab for the Overlay, but I don't want it to be seen in OBS. And if I Alt+Tab a bunch with games such as Squad or Escape From Tarkov, It'll break those games, forcing me to Restart and that's Not something you want for either game.

Should have been more specific since overaly =/= Steam Overlay.

Use Game Capture as Source and make sure that you have "Capture third-party overlays" unchecked.

I've already done that, and Steam Overlay still gets Captured. Check with Pic below.

Try changing the Mode of the capture to specific Window instead of "Capture foreground window with hotkey"

Nevermind! Turns out it's RazerSynapse causing the issue. I did a lot of digging to find a half year old post.

Do you by chance use a Razer mouse or product? If you do... I'll assume you're using their razer synapse program. In which case it doesn't matter what settings you choose in OBS. It will capture it regardless.

These steps worked for me.

1. Close Razer synapse.
2. Launch obs in admin mode.
3. Set your game capture to, specific window. Window priority, match title, otherwise find window of same executable.
4. Check use anti-cheat compatibility hook.
5. Uncheck capture third-party overlays.
6. Launch the game and enjoy.

P.S. These steps worked for me. You can skip step 2. I tested it out after writing this but it doesn't hurt to try.
EDIT: If you don't use Razer, try closing your third-party software used by your hardware and see if those are the culprit. Let us know what you find.

I can't believe this information isn't top priority to spread with how common Razer is becoming.
