If you have another device you can connect to a line-in device and record it but turn off monitoring. You can record to a separate track, or the same track as your main audio
Depending on what kind of sound, there are various ways to include it in OBS Studio. From external microphones or usb sound mixers, mp3 or mp4 music, to internet radio or YouTube etc. Indeed have Audio Monitoring off (that is the default setting). Monitoring is the sound not intended for your audience (live stream/recording), but for the presenters, OBS technicians etc. (you). It can be set at the Audio Mixer: click Options (cog wheel icon), Advanced Audio Properties.
In OBS it is possible to record the normal sound of your computer, ie. an opened browser playing YouTube or an mp3 opened in its default application (outside OBS). So the sound from the laptop's internal speakers, your headphones or connected external speakers. In this case you should avoid using that. So do not use
an Audio Output Capture source
