Question / Help How to get audio from virtual instrument into obs?

I'm new to obs, and I've tried using an audio output, and also tried treating my virtual instrument as a game even, and I can't get the audio from my virtual instrument into obs.

I have software that I use to play the sound of a piano. So the software has a piano sound coming from it that outputs to my external interface (focusrite). I've tried for so long with so many settings changed to capture the audio, but I just can't do it.

How to capture the audio from a virtual instrument?

To be clear, the virtual instrument only outputs to my interface. So it is not system sound. I've tried messing with the settings to make this clear to obs.

It sounds to me like in that setup, there is never an audio stream actually on your PC, so there's nothing for OBS to capture.

Is this a MIDI device? I'm not familiar with the term "virtual instrument".

Create an Audio Output, right click, go to filters, then click the + in the lower left, and click vst 2.x, then in that filter, click drop down and look for "CFX Concert Grand VST_x64" (or x86 if you don't have a 64bit Windows OS)
