Question / Help How to exclude PC output on mic/aux with an audio mixer/XLR mic setup?

I'm an active broadcaster on Twitch and I'm currently trying to figure out a way of removing PC audio output from the mic/aux volume bar on OBS.

I use a Xenyx Q80 USB audio mixer along with an Audio-Technica AT2035 XLR microphone.
My headphones, the AudioTechnica ATH-M50X are plugged into the audio mixer.
My audio setup is currently setup in a way that I can monitor my own voice commentary (useful for live broadcasts, podcasts, etc.)

I recently have been trying to improve my livestream's audio quality by adding the audio filters 'Noise Gate' & 'Noise Supression'. However, I've noticed that the PC audio still manages to creep into the mic/aux.

What I want is :
  • To be able to hear myself
  • To be able to hear the PC audio
  • Have the PC audio NOT be outputted onto the MIC/AUX in OBS Studio.

Is there a way to achieve this? Thank you in advance for the help

Here are the playback/recording settings:

When you say "Xenyx Q80", do you mean the Q802?

If so, I would suggest using that as your PC's output sound device and then making sure "USB to Main Mix" is disabled on the mixer. Right now it sounds like you're using the mixer to mix your PC's output and your mic together and then you're sending them back to the PC.

Yes, it's a Xenyx Q802.

I do have USB to Main Mix disabled. Both 'Phones/Ctrl RM' & 'Main Mix" buttons on the mixer are unpushed.

From your screenshot, it looks like you're using the PC's onboard sound output and sending it one of the inputs on the front of the mixer. Thus causing it to be mixed with the audio from your mic. That's what is being sent back to your PC's line in, and that's why your PC audio is appearing in the mic channel in OBS.

An alternative to using the mixer as your sound output device would be to use a different cable and connect the output from your PC to the 2-Track In on the mixer, and then use the "USB/2-Track to Phones/Ctrl Rm" button to send that to your headphones.

The main point is that you don't want the output from your PC to wind up in the Main Mix, which is what seems to be happening right now.

Updated: Connected an RCA cable from the 'USB/2-Track to Phones/Ctrl Rm' IN to the green output port of the back of my PC. That does actually keep the PC audio out of my mic/aux thankfully.

There's a different problem now though. If I push down the 'To Phones/Ctrl Rm' button on the mixer, then I can't hear myself anymore. Conversely, if I leave it unpushed, I can't hear the PC audio. What I want is to be able to hear myself, the PC audio, and have the two be separate tracks on OBS (mic audio to mic/aux OBS track & pc output to desktop audio OBS track). With the previous setup, I was at least able to hear both myself AND the PC audio.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise that would happen. I don't think you're going to be able to get what you want out of that mixer, in that case; using it for monitoring everything but also sending just the mic input to OBS. In fairness, that's not what it was designed for.

You should be able to fix this by setting up audio sources and control their monitoring settings.
"Monitoring" is listening through your headphones all audio sources in real-time. It is a "pre-processing hook" to hear everything prior to output.

The mixer Audio Advanced properties control the monitoring settings:
- Monitor Off
No output sent to headphones but output this audio source.

- Monitor and Output
Listen and output this audio source.

- Monitor Only (mute output)
Listen only. Do not record or streaming this audio source output.

To setup your monitoring device, go to Settings | Advanced | Audio | Audio Monitoring Device and set it to your headphones.
In Windows Sound:
- The headphones should be the default Playback device
- The mic should be the default Recording device

To hear yourself and have your voice recorded/streamed, the mic audio source should be set to Monitor and Output.
To hear PC audio, you setup your headphones as an audio output capture device and set to either Monitor and Output OR Monitor Only (mute Output)
To have the PC audio not be outputted, don't use speakers. You don't want the mic to pickup any speaker output. It will just generate echo. You shouldn't stream/record with speakers on.

Hello all. Sorry to post on an old topic but this is exactly my issue. I am also using the Behringer Q802 with a cable running into the blue port on my sound card. I recently picked up a XLR mic and on OBS the Mic is outputting all PC sound along with my voice. Can anything be done about this?
