Question / Help How to Connect a Nintendo Switch so That it Can be Seen and Recorded by OBS Studio?

So since I haven't done much playing around with capturing external sources with OBS, the only ones being a webcam connected by USB and a mic connected by a mic jack. So if I wanted to record my Nintendo Switch, how exactly would I have to connect it to my PC for that to happen? Would simply getting a HDMI to USB converter and connecting it up between the Switch dock and my PC do the trick or not? I have also noticed that HDMI to USB converters are pretty expensive, so is there a better way of doing it? I do already have a HDMI to AV cable around, so will then getting an AV to USB converter be good or will the quality take a huge hit? I also have a cable that goes between USB and some strange ending that I've never seen, labelled with the USB trident and the letters "SS". Could I maybe get a HDMI to that weird SS converter, and would that work?

You need a capture card for this case, such as AVerMedia or Elgato for examples.
So is there no way just to connect it via a cable? I have also found a capture card recently in one of my boxes, called Climax Digital VCAP302, however when I connected it all up the screen was just blank. Could that be a OBS issue or an issue with the capture card?

Oh god... that thing is only for SD analog video.

You need an HDMI capture card. This can either be a USB device (preferably USB3.0, one of the most popular ones right now is the legato HD60s), or an internal PCI capture card. Plug HDMI cable from switch dock to capture card, then another HDMI cable from the passthrough on the capture card to your TV/monitor.

You can not just use a USB-C to USB3.0 cable and plug it into your computer directly. It needs to be connected to the dock in order to send a video signal, which can then be captured.
