Question / Help How often are files read?

I am using a program which pull various things from Twitch and saves them to disk (and does so every few seconds), and then they are displayed in my stream. My question is, when I add a source that reads text from a file, how often is this updated? I got a new follower and didn't get any new notification at all, despite the name being in a file for a while already.

The files are read after they are modified. Sometimes network shares can be slow to update, make sure they are on a local disk and no antivirus or other software is interfering.

Then I don't know what's wrong :( The files are on local disk.
