How do I output TV to OBS? (No gameplay - just my TV screen)

To clarify, I just want to send whatever is on my TV, such as navigating menus, TV shows, etc., to OBS to record to make fair-use content.

This is a two-part question. 1, how does the cabling need to be set up? 2, what settings in OBS are needed?

I really appreciate any help; searches have been remarkably unhelpful.

I don't think I've ever seen a TV with a video out port, so there's no direct way to record what's on the TV by OBS. Possible ways would be to have an external TV tuner or cable box with a video/audio output port (HDMI) and capture the output on your OBS computer using an HDMI capture card or USB capture device. Another way would be if you have a streaming app or webpage on your computer that can display your TV channels and use a Window or Display capture in OBS. Another way would be to point a webcam at your TV screen. Other than these methods, I can't think of another way to do it.

That's making a lot of sense. I knew that there is a way to do it, because streamers sometimes play TV shows. I suppose that other possibilities might be that they're streaming the show via a streaming service on an app on their game console, or perhaps via a small media streaming service device plugged into the tv. I can definitely utilize one of those methods to capture the video to do what I'm trying to do. Thanks for the input!
