Hey, I've been messing around with OBS and watching some tuts from peeps and such but I can't really find out what settings are best for recording large amounts of gameplay. My graphics card is a Geforce GTX 1080. I tried using x264 and NVENC H.264 and I got the best out of using x264 even tho I have a Nvidia graphics card just doesn't make sense .-.

There are no "perfect settings", it's mostly just trial & error. For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets under Settings > Output when in Simple output mode. In the recording section, change the Recording Quality to Indistinguishable Quality, and set encoder to x264 or NVENC.

If you experience lag, it's usually caused by overloaded GPU. Running a game without vertical sync or a frame rate limiter will frequently cause performance issues with OBS because your GPU will be maxed out. Enable vsync or set a reasonable frame rate limit that your GPU can handle without hitting 100% usage. If that's not enough you may also need to turn down some of the video quality options in the game.
