Do I have to use VLC to have a 2pc set up without capture card?

I think this is your set up:

GAMING PC: stream to your Nginx RTMP server on your streaming PC

STREAMING PC: you are using a media source to capture RTMP and send it to Twitch.

So, no VLC here.


I think you can use VLC SOURCE in streaming PC to capture RTMP. Maybe this is more efficient.

Yes you are right that is how it's set up.
The thing is, when I close VLC there is no sound at all.

I'm really sorry about the hassle but this is literally my first time doing all of this, never used 2 pcs and never used rtmp.

Gaming PC - OBS>Custom streaming service>URL = (2nd pc static IPV4 address/Live)>Stream key set to "test"

Streaming PC: Nginx running, OBS linked to twitch stream, VLC media player also running (on VLC I go to Media>Open Network stream> then I have rtmp:// (static IPV4 of streaming PC)/Live/Test - (which is the stream key I used on OBS gaming pc) and it all works.

If I close VLC the video keeps running but sound stops.

So how would I set up the "VLC source"
Do I just add source on streaming PC>VLC Video Source, then what?

Do not run VLC.

Add to your scene VLC Video Source, instead media source

Add path / URL: rtmp:// (static IPV4 of streaming PC)/Live/Test

I think you should get audio and video.

FYI: OBS has no audio monitoring. Both Media source and VLC video source will produce audio in your stream BUT you can hear it.
So, no need to run an extra VLC to listen to your audio.

Check audio is OK recording , or using your mobile phone

Thankyou for that! I will test it in about an hour or so, hopefully this will reduce the strain on the cpu massively, as having the VLC player open was outting cpu up to 50%
