Question / Help Hotkeys not working when using Alienware TactX when OBS unfocused

I've seen a number of posts regarding hotkeys not working when OBS is unfocused but nothing that specifically addresses what I'm experiencing. My Alienware laptop has a set of macro keys (TactX) that would be perfect for controlling the stream whilst I'm going, i.e. changing scenes, hiding a webcam etc. Unfortunately using the TactX keys when OBS doesn't have focus doesn't work. I've tried running OBS as an administrator but that had no affect, and I'm currently running OBS 20.0.1 64 bit. Here's an example:
  • Set a macro of Control + Shift + 1 to my TactX key.
  • Defined a hotkey control in OBS by pressing my TactX key which entered Control + Shift + 1 into the hotkey field.
  • TactX hotkey works when OBS has focus.
  • TactX hotkey doesn't work when OBS doesn't have focus BUT manually pressing Control + Shift +1 does work.

Any ideas of how to get the TactX hotkeys working when OBS doesn't have focus? Thanks

Try to elevate rights to the keystroke emulator application. At least, it works for the AutoHotkey (when .exe script running as admin).

I'm not sure how to do that in this instance since I'm not running a program I'm just using the hardware keys.

Of course, it may be difficult, but the way you adjust the keys means that there is additional software that emulates actual keystrokes. If AutoHotkey can recognize this keys - better use it instead. Or just wait until someone who has same hardware, uses obs, had resolved same issue in easier way, will find this thread and helps you.
