Question / Help Hotkeys not working properly

Is there any trick to using hotkeys? Because i have numpad 1&2 set as hotkeys for switching between game and be right back scenes. The problem is that these hotkeys are working only when i click on OBS studio preview window. So if i'm playing a game in fullscreen on my main monitor and i want to switch to brb scene, i must alt+tab out of the game and click on OBS preview window. Only then the hotkeys will start working. I could just click then on a scene i want to switch to. This makes hotkeys absolutely useless.

I'm having the same problem with hotkeys. They're fine on start-up of obs, but whenever i switch scenes, they become inactive.

It does work if you run it as Admin. You must click somewhere outside OBS. Anywhere. And then try pressing hotkeys. Should work now.

For further info, when the scenes/sources list is in focus in OBS, certain hotkeys are disabled for compatibility reasons. You need to select another element (clicking the grey space around the preview should work) to re-enable them.

If you run OBS as admin and quickly switch to another window before OBS window shows up, the hotkeys still don't work.

I had this problem too i figured it out, go to settings > advanced tab > and at the bottom hotkeys was set to disable them when window in in main focus, u can set it to never disable them, AND furthermore, in some games, u will need to run OBS as admin, i suggest setting it to run as admin automatically every time u launch OBS so u don't have to worry about it

I've tried this and the issue still is happening for me. It is set to never disable the hotkeys yet still while OBS is in focus hotkeys don't work.

On a Mac, you have to give permission for OBS to listen to input devices (keyboard) for hotkeys to work. Go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Scroll down and select 'Input Monitoring' -> Enable for OBS.app (you may have to click the lock in the bottom left).

Alright so I figured I would contribute as I'm always frustrated when trying to find a solution and nothing is updated to most recent.

SOLUTION:
MacOS > Set hotkeys needed > ensure the input monitoring is enabled (check above response) > close OBS > reopen.

That is what worked for me.

So I am totally lost. I can get lower thirds hotkeys to work. but with stream deck it seems like it clears the command on scene switch and then they don't work again and I have to start over with the script.....ugh I tried everything above but it still happens.

*EDIT So I just closed OBS and reopened again as admin and the hotkeys still work, it is Stream Deck that doesn't.

Sorry, so I figured out but still need help. Seems like I have the opposite problem. If I am clicked on the OBS window, stream deck wont work. If am clicked on something else, it will.

I just ran into this. I tried the setting above, Never Disable Hotkeys, also running as administrator. This on a Windows PC Windows 10, using Chrome. As long as I have a preview window open, and in focus, hot keys work. if I click the anything outside of OBS, like Chrome browser, they don't work. Sounds like it was solved before, but not working for me now. It would be nice if OBS always monitored for hot keys.
