Hello!
I'll try and keep this short as I can be a bit long winded. I'll list my problem first, then the timeline of events and troubleshooting as I've been on somewhat of a mental rollercoaster so far. I'm just looking for some suggestions as to what could've changed because honestly I'm kind of dumbfounded. I was going to just chalk it up and use faster but I keep coming back to this, especially cause I was able to use medium for a few months. I even upgraded from the 5820k to stream Escape from Tarkov on medium which I was able to do once the new CPU was installed.
Setup: Two PC setup, streaming PC has an Intel i7-5960x overclocked to 4.3GHz, no temps above 50c even at full load.
Issue: Cannot stream on a higher encoder than faster but was able to in April and no hardware changes have been made to the Streaming PC.
April - May: Streamed semi consistently using Medium encoder, no CPU maxing or dropped frames except to ISP issues.
May - August: Didn't stream from May till October but purchased a 1440p 144hz monitor in August up from 1080p 144hz. Did a few test streams, realized I needed 4k capture card so I purchased the Elgato 4K60 mk.2, did a few test streams with the new cap card, no issues.
September - October: Start streaming again with the plan to be consistent, first stream in, 60 seconds in a friend says I'm dropping frames all over the place which is when I realized my CPU was maxing out. Came to the conclusion it's the new resolution, 1440p is higher than 1080p even though I'm still downscaling to 936p, the base resolution must be too high and causing the CPU to max out. Also noticed that the system requirements Elgato lists on their website has higher req. for the 4K card than the previously used HD60 Pro. Grabbed a 240hz 1080p panel, put in the old HD60 Pro. Same results, CPU maxing at 100% on not only medium but fast as well. Even went as far as to try old versions of OBS as I saw they had CPU issues with version 26. Formatted my Streaming PC, wiped bios, redid the OC still can't stream using a higher encoder than faster.
Any advice is much appreciated. I mean, I'm not crazy right? Someone has to have something I missed or is dealing with a similar issue. Right? I just shaved my head last night otherwise I'd still be pulling my hair out.
