Question / Help HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding)

Hello, I just purchased a GTX 980 and saw that it has upgraded the NVENC on the card but it still seems to be provide less quality than x264 as to be expected. While digging through the new stuff added to the 900 series cards I saw that they have made them capable of HEVC (H265) which is supposed to provide vast improvements over NVENC.

Perhaps I understood what I read incorrectly or how it operates incorrectly but can this not be used for live video encoding and if so, will OBS eventually support this?

People have trouble decoding 60fps h264, because their PCs are too slow, h265 would be a nightmare.
Also, NVENC only supports encoding h264, there is no (public) api to encode h265.
