Question / Help Help with window capture (black screen but shows mouse and plays audio)

Hello, I'm new with the entire streaming scene so please bear with me. I'm trying to stream to twitch using the window capture mode over the preview screen for the roxio game capture HD pro. When I start streaming I can see the video on my laptop screen in the OBS video viewer but when on twitch, the stream just shows a black screen. However the audio can still be heard and when capture mouse cursor is enabled the cursor is shown as well.

I believe Aero needs to be disabled to capture the Roxio software. Use the checkbox under Settings > Video.

I just tried to disable aero, however even though I have the boxed labeled "disable aero" checked my log file still says that the aero is enabled when I stream.

edit: after doing a quick google search, it seems that there might be an issue due to the fact that I am running Windows 8.1. I am running OBS in compatibility mode for windows 7 for the previous attempts and log files.
