Help with refresh rate please.

Hi,
My monitor has a 144hz refresh rate.
I'm streaming Final Fantasy and have my "in game" Hz set to 144.
But in windows display options it is set to 60hz for some reason.
This all runs fine in obs but, when i change my "windows display settings to 144hz up from 60hz, my obs stats decline instantly .
I would imagine that at my monitor is 144hz that both windows and in game Hz should be set to 144?

Any help please
Thanks Mark

Your monitor refresh rate, source FPS (your "in game" Hz) and OBS FPS should be multiples of each other. Try 120 Hz, 120 game FPS and 60 (or 30) OBS FPS. If still having issues, set everything to 60 (or 30).

Thanks for the reply ,
This works great , thanks heaps.

Another question if i may, in my game , i can set both Monitor refresh rate and also FPS.
The options are .....Monitor refresh rate 60,100,120,144, as u suggested to to set multiples i set it to 120Hz but this is at full screen.
My FPS options for full screen mode are 30 fps (refresh rate 1/4), 60 fps (refresh rate 1/2), 120 fps (refresh rate 1/1) and also a "none" setting which lets my fps go as high as my gpu will allow.

But i prefer to play in windowed mode , which changes to 15 fps (refresh rate 1/4), 30 fps (refresh rate 1/2), 60 fps (refresh rate 1/1) and also a "none".
And if i set it game fps to "none" i can play at a great 90-100 fps.

I cant tell though if i play windowed mode at "none" 90-100 fps what that sets my monitor refresh rate to, as the preset menu with the HZ options greys out....... is it 60hz monitor but 90-100 fps or , because i have "none" selected its running at 120hz at 90-100 fps as its not limited etc.

Not sure what you're trying to ask, but if a game runs windowed, it uses the Windows desktop refresh rate, because the game window is displayed together with the Windows desktop. Because of this, the game will grey out its own fps options for windowed mode.

This is because when a game goes fullscreen, it 'takes over' from Windows and handles the refresh and sync rates itself. It sounds like you're running the monitor at 60hz normally on the Windows desktop (Windows reporting a 60hz refresh setting) so 60fps would be a 1:1 framerate, and what is used any time you're playing in windowed mode. You can alter this by changing the Windows refresh rate to run at 120/144/etc. I'd recommend 120hz, at which point you'll get the benefit of high-refresh even while playing in windowed mode.

Thanks for the replies,
Ive set it up now as the following back to qhobbes suggested , Windows refresh 120Hz, Game fps 120, OBS fps 60.
Works great.
I now realize thanks to ferret that the windows setting also changes (takes over) my option in game, that's why i couldn't get my head around .
Thank you all for the time and effort :P

Going from 75 FPS to 30 FPS you are going to capture 2 out of 5 frames. This is easy for the first 5 frames; you would capture 2 and 4. The problem occurs after that. Going from from 144 to 60 is 15 out of 36. This is a problem. Best to stick to even multiples. 60Hz 60 Game FPS 30 OBS FPS.
