So the thread title says it all. I just purchased a new gaming rig about a month ago and have done all the tweaks and tests so my computer is pretty stable.

-i7 6700k
-evga 960 ssc
-Asus Rog Maximus Hero VIII
-Kraken x61
-Gskill trident series 16GB 3200
-1000w rosewill
*im also running a 1680x1050 - 60hz monitor*

With these given specs, can someone please help me with my settings for obs. I've done some research on bitrate and cpu presets but I can never really find a solid guide that matches with other guides so I don't know what to believe. I plan on increasing my internet service and upgrading my router/modem as well so I'm not to worried about that problem since I know my internet will not be able to handle streaming all that well. So if I could get some input on what I should set my settings to that would be great! Cheers!

If you are streaming to Twitch and are not a Partner, the best settings don't change. 720p@30fps, 2000kbps, x264 Veryfast or lower.
Test-stream for 20 minutes while gaming, watching CPU load, throttling and temps. You want to shoot for around 60-80% usage without overheating or throttling. If it's below that, drop to one lower preset (slower preset = more CPU used, but better compression quality, so your stream looks better at the same bitrate) and test again for another 20 minutes. Don't skip presets, some of them are pretty big jumps.

And ignore most of the 'guides' out there. Most of them are just full of parroted information, and usually it's somewhere between partly wrong and actively harmful. Especially anything recommending custom x264 settings, or a custom buffer.

Do you know how to get rid of the black square that appear around the video? My aspect ratio is 8:5 and when i preview stream it doesnt show on obs but when i test stream, i can see black edges on twitch. Thanks so much for the tips. If you got more, keep em comin! :D

You are using a 16:10 ratio screen. Twitch will letterbox any received video out to 16:9. The only way to correct this is to set your base resolution to a 16:9 ratio. Even then, it will only allow you to fill the 'dead' space with art assets, or move the video over to one side so the other just has a big black stripe down it instead of one on either side (a great place to put your webcam, or on-screen chat, or other information if you don't want it covering the game).

What I'd really recommend though, is that if you only have one monitor? Go buy a 1920x1080 monitor. Two monitors should really be considered basic livestreaming hardware anyway, and you can use the 1680x1050 one for watching chat/system health monitoring/keeping an eye on your stream preview/etc, while being able to play fullscreen at 16:9 on the 1080p screen.
