Question / Help Help with Hauppauge Colossus

I currently have been attempting to run 2 seperate PCs to stream. The first PC is my gaming PC (1080p display) I normally used to stream off it but my Frames per second drops to almost unplayable rate especially playing Battlefield 4. The second PC is hat I want to use to be my streaming PC using an Hauppauge Colossus Video Capture Card. So I had it hooked up but didn't like the fact that it changed my Gaming PC display setting to I don't know what and really didn't like it. So I disconnected the 2 from each other and got my display on Gaming PC back to what I like. Ok so for information: here is how I had it set up.

Gaming PC runs 2 XFX Radeon HD 6950 garphics card (Crossfire) so I went from main Graphics card on Gaming pc HDMI to a HDMI splitter then first out to my monitor the second to the Streaming PC Hauppauge Colossus Video Capture card.

Is there something else I need to do to get this all to work right and if so can someone please help me as I would love to be able to stream all my games again.

My monitor has a DVI port and the gaming PC graphics card has 2 DVI ports. The Colossus Video Capture card has a single HDMI in and the RGBs also.

Could someone please help me. Thank you.

I am totally confused about specifically what the problem is.

What I got from your message, vaguely, was that you wanted to use a 2-pc setup, but you didn't end up liking it because.. something happened with your gaming PC's monitor when you had it hooked up, so you switched back to single PC setup but the framerate is bad if you stream on the same PC as the game?

Okay, so if you want to stream on the same PC as BF4, then we'll just need to see a log to try to reduce resource usage. Not sure what's going on when you tried a 2-pc setup though.

Ok when I had my 2nd (Streaming) PC hooked up to my 1st (Gaming) PC. I had it connected in this order. Gaming PC Graphics Card HDMI to a HDMI Splitter to Monitor.and to Streaming PC Hauppauge Colossus Video Capture Card. My Gaming PC display was set at 1080p60 and was changed to something like 968x638 or to that fact.

I'm wondering do I need a different type of HDMI Splitter or can I go in a connection like the following

Gaming PC Graphics card DVI out to Monitor and Gaming PC Graphics Card out HDMI to Streaming PC Hauppauge video Capture Card. Cloning the DVI Output on the HDMI Output from the Gaming PC Graphics Card.

I hope this Helped you out understand my issue some more and the questions I have. If you could please help I'd Appreciate very much.

Does the splitter not support 1080p output or something? You might just have to resetup your monitor after coming out of the splitter. Essentially having an HDMI going to the 2nd PC makes no difference on how it is displayed on your gaming monitor. That is all on the settings of your PC and the game itself which you should check first and then check the splitter after that.

I don't think the splitter supports 1080p as the splitter is this one. check out the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Aftermarket-P...&qid=1402330954&sr=8-6&keywords=hdmi+splitter

I did go into my gaming pc and tried to readjust the settings and I wasn't able to. I'm running in Gaming PC an MSI 990FXA-GD80v2 Mobo, AMD FX 8350 CPU, and Dual XFX Radeon HD 6950 Graphics Cards in crossfire (2GB each GDDR5) with the CPU and Graphics cards cooled with a open loop liquid cooling system. My display drivers is the AMD Catalyst Control Center.

Please any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

Yeah this sounds like a pretty bad splitter. Your setup is essentially the same as mine except that i have 2 6gb 7970s so It's the splitter that is the problem. You should look into an amplifier instead of a splitter because it's going to look better and do what you want, just might cost a bit.

That looks good but a website without reviews is something I personally don't like. I would suggest newegg.com because you can instantly read how good a product is before you buy it from people who are using it for the same thing as you.

All I hear from friends and fellow streamers is that the Hauppauge Colossus Video Capture Card doesn't work with OBS and seggust that I should go with a Avermedia HD Gamer system. Any seggustions on that. As of right now I went from Gaming PC DVI out to Monitor and HDMI out to Video Capture card on Streaming PC. I seem to not be able to get any display in OBS right now

As far as I know, the Hauppauge Colossus (for some horrible reason) outputs encoded video even though it's a PCI Express card. Support for devices like these will not be added to the current version of OBS, but they will be supported in the rewrite at some point in time.

Those things are HORRIBLE, I tried one once to connect a TV and a monitor to a single HDMI port, whenever I turned the TV on it made the monitor display go green! Don't buy them, they are cheap and shit.

I now have one of these and it works flawlessly.

I guess I'll just habve to invest in the AverMedia HD Live Gamer then. Unless someone has another cheaper Idea of how I can get the stream to work with the Colossus Capture Card I have. Any ideas and help Appreciated.

Has there been any new updates or finding to get support for the Hauppauge Colossus Video Capture Card. I really don't want to have to buy another brand of Capture Card since I already have this one. Please any help appreciated.

No, there have been no updates or "findings" to support this card. There is no reason a PCI Express card should output encoded video, and yet this one does. You will simply have to wait until support for devices that output compressed video is implemented, and even then we couldn't really say for sure if it'd use the same filter as the other Hauppauge devices.

I don't see why you would not "want to have to" buy another brand of capture card. Just because you have bought a problematic device that doesn't operate like anything else, that doesn't mean it's better than the rest.

I understand paibox that there is no reason for a PCI Express card to have encoded video. I however do not appreciate your comment at the end.

I don't see why you would not "want to have to" buy another brand of capture card. Just because you have bought a problematic device that doesn't operate like anything else, that doesn't mean it's better than the rest.

See for 1 this card was given to me as a gift from my brother and I don't want to make him feel bad and purchase another device just because what you said. For 2 not everyone makes a bunch of money that they can just go out and purchase another device. See money is made from trees and not grown on trees. I guess I will have to save up some money and purchase xsplit as I have recently found out they do support the Hauppauge Capture Cards. I sorry that you guys feel this way about the Hauppauge Products, but sometimes it's not about which device is better but what is affordable for the people that choose to stream. Thank you! for showing me how much you are not looking into supporting the Hauppauge Products. I even guess that you won't even be attempting to rewrite anything for your program to support the Hauppauge Products.

*scratches head* Okay, and how was I supposed to know that you got it as a gift from your brother, and thus feel that you can't get rid of it? I (quite reasonably) assumed that you had bought it, since you mentioned nothing which would indicate that you hadn't, and wanted to point out that there's no shame in getting a capture card that doesn't behave... irregularly.

I'm not sure how you came to that last conclusion at all. The problem with adding support for these devices is that it's almost impossible to know how they set up their intermediary DirectShow filters (which in most cases decoded the video) without actually owning the device and being able to set it up and test it. Support for devices that output compressed video is planned, and I did say that you would have to wait for said support to be implemented in the rewrite.

It looks to me like you're feeling offended just for the sake of feeling offended. I do not have the money to throw at one of these cards just to attempt to add support for it, my suggestion was to sell the card to someone else and pick up one that's less problematic, and quite possibly cheaper... But if you don't want to do that, that's of course entirely up to you.
