ok so i have an i5 2500k oc to 4.7ghz i got a gtx 970 today which was an upgrade from my gtx 580.

in shadow play i can record at 1080p 60fps with 0 problems but on obs i cant even manage 720p the videos lag like mad and makes my game drops frames randomly.
i was using 2800kbs bit rate with verfast cpu preset on my 580 but was hoping with the 970 i could manage more.
ive tried the nvidea codec as well as the x264 but both give me the same issue. as soon as i hit record it tells me my cpu is over loaded and i should turn down the settings even though its using 12% of the cpu.
using obs studio latest version. only recording not streaming
any help is great.

When you upgrade GPUs even with same vendor, I would wipe GPU drivers with DDU in safemode then reboot and install the latest functional nvidia drivers (i say that because they've had a few bad ones lately from what I hear).

after that, record for 5 minutes with your game under heavy load then post a link to your logfile

Maybe use task manager to increase OBS-mp priority, and/or reduce game priority. This may help OBS's x264 encoder, but may slow down the game.

Should try using 2 computers, with one running the game, the other have a capture card for streaming.
