Preview of a 6 hour stream i did - http://www.twitch.tv/noahpcfreak/b/538117016

With Settings:
res: 1280 x 720
multithread optimizations
process priority class: above normal
Video x264 cpu preset: faster
encoding profile: main

Video encoding: max bitrate: kb/s 3000
buffer size 3000

everything else configured for twitch

The problem is that when i broadcast my cpu is at 90% + all the time.
I like the quality and want to improve the quality, but this of course kills my game performance with lag spikes when im gaming with a cpu intensive game. What cpu would you guys recommend for these settings?
Currently i have i5 2500k overclocked to 4.8ghz.

Ive also thought of just building a dedicated pc for streaming. What are your thoughts on what i should do?

32bit programs can only use up to 4 gigabytes of memory at any given time.

Waaait a second, I should have more thoroughly read your original post. The problem is almost assuredly because of "preset: faster". Switch that back to veryfast, as 'faster' will eat up a lot more CPU.
