Question / Help Help streaming for LoL

I'm very new to OBS and new to streaming in general (about 6 months in total). I'm not entirely sure what you need me to post here for optimal help on configuring the settings so I can stream without lag.

Computer Specs:
Alienware Aurora
Windows 7 64
Intel (r) core i7 CPU 930 @2.8GHz 2.80GHz
12.0 GB SDRAM
NIDIA GeForce GTX 460 graphics card

Running two monitors (one hdmi, other standard connection) both at 1920x1080.

I ran the log analyzer and tried to adjust some settings for twitch.tv based on what it said. Here is the most recent log:

11:46:10: =====Stream End: 2013-10-23, 11:46:10=================================================

When I'm not streaming, my FPS is consistent at 60+ and I have a ping that ranges from 30-80 usually. When I enable the stream, I drop to 30 FPS or below and my ping shoots up to around 120 or higher (if I minimize firefox and obs so that they cannot be seen on the second monitor). If I do not minimize them, I get an even greater FPS drop.

Typically when playing, I have the league client open, skype, firefox, and itunes.

May want to consider dropping the stream FPS, I wonder if 720p60fps is just a bit too much for that CPU to handle, it's several generations old now, after all.

As for the ping, if at all possible try to avoid streaming over wireless. Other things you you can try: Enable "Minimize Network Impact" under Settings>Broadcast Settings, reduce bitrate until ping stops spiking.

I can verify that 720@60 is definitely not too much for the i7 930; I'm on a non-overclocked 920 and it can swing just fine all the way up to 1080@30 (I haven't tried running it any higher, and normally run 720@60 for my nightly casts, hovering around 60% utilization even in-game).

More problematic is this:
11:46:10: Number of times waited to send: 1452, Waited for a total of 5318964 bytes
11:46:10: Number of b-frames dropped: 2622 (21%), Number of p-frames dropped: 2377 (19%), Total 4999 (41%)
You're dropping almost half your frames!

You're running well above what your network connection can provide. Go run a 6MB test at http://www.testmy.net/upload to see what you have for constant throughput, and bear in mind that you need to leave some margin for game network communications; LoL is notoriously bandwidth-greedy. Ignore speedtest.net, it's worthless for livestreamers. Doubly ignore what your ISP tells you you're getting.

And yes, streaming over wifi is a BAD IDEA. Doing *anything* bandwidth-intensive over wifi is bad news. EVERYONE on a given channel shares the same amount of bandwidth, even if they're on different APs/networks. It's meant as a lightweight data transfer protocol... not as a replacement for running ethernet cables for the lazy.

I tested at that link and got a 3.9 upload speed (which was 30% slower than my host average). What are your recommendations based on that? I can get an ethernet to run wired, that shouldn't be an issue.

Run wired to rule out wifi interference/drops as part of the frame-droppage. With that result (3.9 = 3900kbps total) you really should be able to run at 2800kbps (even if 2000 is the max recommended for non-partnered streamers). You may also need to switch Twitch servers; there's the possibility that it may be on the server-side, or an intermittent problem. You'll want to run the bandwidth test a few times through the day to measure your fluctuation level.

As far as the in-game FPS, be aware that OBS does use your graphics card for a number of processes (compositing, scaling, etc) so I'd also recommend monitoring your GPU load with something like GPU-z... the 460 is an older card, and I wouldn't expect to see it dropping THAT bad, but if you have the visual options cranked up in LoL that could cause it. Likewise with vsync enabled, I've noticed some weird interactions with game capture... Alan Wake for example will run at 20-30fps with vsync on and game cap, but a solid 60 with vsync off OR when not capturing the game.

1) Hardline networking. You'll need to re-order your network interfaces to prioritize the wired connection... or just remove the wifi adapter.
2) Monitor GPU, make sure it's not over-loaded, try turning down the in-game graphics options.
3) Switch to the 64-bit OBS (assuming you're on W7-64), it provides a performance increase and lets you use more of your RAM.

Post a new log from a live session, and we can go on from there. :)

Just running wired as opposed to wireless, my upload speed jumped to 6.5 MBS

With the OBS running and not minimized to system tray, I was at about 40 FPS in game. With minimized I was at roughly 55-60 (virtually no difference). If I have twitch up and running (firefox not minimized while twitch is there with my stream going) I dropped to 15-20 FPS.

On the up side, your dropped frames have been solved.
I'd still recommend switching to 64-bit OBS if you have Win7-64 installed, as it does give a performance bump.

Additionally, there is indeed a reason that it's NOT recommended to watch your stream at the same time/from the same system as you're casting; the Flash player is pretty heavy, and you have to DOWNLOAD your stream (whatever you're sending to Twitch) at its full size, which can over-stress a network connection. The Flash player is kind of a CPU pig in and of itself as well, especially with a high-bitrate stream.

I'd also recommend giving some consideration to dropping your bitrate to 2000, and your framerate to 45 to help compensate (720@30 can run fine at 1500kbps, and the 50% framerate boost should fit within the 33% bandwidth boost over that). Again, using too high a bitrate can cause poor performance for a lot of viewers.

Beyond that, I'd still blame the old GTX460, in conjunction with the LoL client (try lowering settings), and the demands that OBS puts on the GPU as well for its own back-end processing.
Are you monitoring it to see what the GPU processing/utilization load looks like?

I can't seem to find the download for the 64 bit, do you have a link? I also dropped the bitrate to 2000 and adjusted the framerate.

the 64bit client of obs should be in your obs folder .... as for everyone else who downloaded obs and installed it

I keep getting the following error message when I try to run the OBS 64:
The program can't start because d3dx10_43.dll is missing from your computer. try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled OBS 3 times now and same issue.
