i updated obs studios to 28.0.2 (from idk what version of 27.0 that I was on) and I lost everything OBS related, from settings to scenes to scene collections to my profile, please help how do I recover them

i do not know for sure how to resolve this, but i would start by double checking

%AppData%\obs-studio\basic

there should be folders there that have your profile and scene data. maybe you can try and import them from there. if not, i have no idea.

in that location, i cant find any of my profiles and scenes except for the default one created by OBS when you download it

oof, i don't know what else to recommend. is there maybe another obs-studio folder in the %AppData% folder? maybe it was installed to a custom location.

Always a good idea to know where your app stores its settings, and to have backups before major changes/upgrades
i didnt expect OBS to do that, knowing that its also a popular application, I'm being reminded by the times where people lost data from updating their android phones in like 2015

%appdata%\obs-studio-node-server which has nothing relevant except for a settings.bat file (at least I think .bat)
C:\Program Files (x86)\obs-studio which idk what it has

yea, it should not have happened, i upgraded a few weeks ago and mine went smooth and i didn't lose anything.

the files/folders located in this directory are the binaries and plugins that run OBS, there should not be any user data stored there.

i can atleast catch a lucky break for now as streamlabs has my scenes saved from obs (well, not everything but the most important scenes and scene collections are there)
