The HDPVR isn't supported. You'll have to use window capture in compatibility mode on another program that can display the capture device's output.

XSplit does support the HDPVR but that functionality is limited to licensed users only. I don't know of any other third-party software that will work with it.

Run the Hauppauge software for your HDPVR, then in OBS add a window capture source for it in compatibility mode.

The HDPVR will eventually work in OBS Studio, yes, but probably not in the current version of OBS. It requires custom support due to the way Hauppauge has designed it and its drivers, which is why XSplit has limited it to licensed users and why it doesn't "just work" in OBS like other devices with proper DirectShow drivers.

Hi, so i am using windows capture/ sub screen region to record my videos on OBS but when i try to do this my gameplay does not show up instead just a blank black screen.. i also have compatability mode turned on still black screen.

So basically my video's consist of my webcam in top left corner then just a black screen where my xbox screen should be.

Duplicate thread merged into the old one, starting a new thread for the same issue is not helpful.

If you're using Windows 7 you may need to disable Aero for the window capture source to be able to properly capture the Hauppauge software.

Sapiens said you only need to disable Aero if you're using Windows 7. You're using Windows 8.

You can try enabling "Capture Layered Windows", or try Monitor capture instead.
