Help Connecting PTC-140 to OBS

Long-story-short ... I have a new PTC-140 camera that's intended to be a standalone streaming camera. It has an HDMI output that can go to a monitor. I am hopeful to use that HDMI to connect to my laptop so that I can use this camera to stream via OBS. But the laptop is not recognizing the camera when I (1) plug the HDMI directly in or (2) use a $25 HDMI to USB adaptor I found at Target to connect the camera to the adapter and the adapter to a USB port on the laptop. I can't find any drivers for this either. Any ideas on how I might utilize this camera in OBS?

The instructions that come with the hardware even have specific instructions for OBS. It was a simple solution.
