Help! Capturing Audio, Visual and mic via capture card.

Hi,

I've browsed the forums, but I haven't been able to find a thread that solves my issue, despite the fact that I'm sure it's a prevalent one.

Anyway, I have the $20 basic capture card you all know and love, and it relays my desktop screen perfectly. Yay.

However, no audio.

It's possible this is because (Unsurprisingly) the capture card is designed to be as unreliable as possible, but I feel like the solution is right under my nose..

I can connect a 3.5mm jack from my desktop to my recording laptop, from there I can stream the microphone and audio through it and although it's functional, I want to add a noise gate filter for the mic, and the aux cord merges the audio and mic into one single track.

Is the only option here to buy a headset splitter that has two mic outputs?? At the moment my best idea is to record the audio on my desktop and the visual on my laptop. Or just suffer the frame drops and do it all on my desktop..
