HELP - audio recording stopped minutes into recording

I was recording and I wasn't able to hear any sound from my computer. So minutes into the recording, I was investigating what was keeping the audio from working. I realized that my bluetooth speakers were still connected so I changed the output to my computer's speakers and the sound started to work. After three hours of recording, I playback the video and realize that there is no sound.

I watch the video and find that in the first minutes when I was playing around with the settings, it turns out when I switched the audio output is the same time the sound stopped. I am so surprised that could have messed my recording session up... wow.

Now I have a three hour video that has no sound - even though during the recording I heard everything. I'm not sure if the sound is really gone. Is there anyway I could check if the audio is truly gone?

What would I look for? The size of the three hour video is less than that of another... could this mean that there is no audio on the video?
Can I change settings on my VLC player to play the sound?
Can I do something about this in the future to prevent it from happening? It seems like drivers and software is getting more fickle - things like this happen.
If the sound on the video file still exists, is it possible for me to extract and recover it?

I'm so confused and really frustrated that with flip of switch all my time went caput... because the sound just disappeared.

I tried a bunch of tests playing with the bluetooth speakers and the computer audio such as switching between inputs at various stages, turning on/off bluetooth, etc., and there isn't one that causes OBS to not record audio. Now I'm not sure what to think or how to prevent in future.
