Help adjusting settings properly for recording gameplay with webcam

Hey I just started using OBS for recording and have a 4k webcam, when I was trying to record RDR2, first few seconds were fine, then my webcam started lagging badly and same with my game even though I have all the settings in game properly adjusted, so I need help putting the right settings together for the output such as recording, webcam, and audio please!

this is my log report: https://obsproject.com/logs/dMoP8wZmyoGNslfE

Your log shows OBS is set to 4K at 60 FPS, while your webcam is also running at 4K/30 FPS. That's a lot to process while playing RDR2, especially with the background removal filter.

I'd try setting OBS to 1920x1080 at 60 FPS, set the webcam to 1080p/30 FPS, and temporarily disable background removal to see if the lag stops. Under Settings → Output → Recording, try the AMD hardware H.264 encoder. Also, your log shows OBS failing to initialize your WH202A audio devices, so check that the correct microphone and playback devices are selected.

okay can you give me step by step instructions please? I'm still relatively new to using OBS

Here’s what I’d try first. Change one thing at a time and test a short recording after each step.

1. Lower OBS to 1080p

 • Open Settings → Video.
 • Set Base (Canvas) Resolution to 1920x1080.
 • Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1920x1080.
 • Set Common FPS Values to 60.
 • Click Apply, then OK.
2. Lower your webcam resolution

 • In the main OBS window, right-click your webcam source and select Properties.
 • If you see a resolution or video format option, change it from 4K to 1920x1080 and set FPS to 30, if available.
 • Click OK.
3. Turn off background removal temporarily

 • Right-click your webcam source and select Filters.
 • Disable or remove the background removal filter for now.
 • Test a recording to see if the lag improves.
4. Set up recording

 • Go to Settings → Output.
 • Change Output Mode to Advanced if needed.
 • Open the Recording tab.
 • Set the recording format to MKV.
 • For the encoder, choose an AMD hardware H.264 option if one is available.
 • Click Apply.
5. Check your audio devices

 • Go to Settings → Audio.
 • Make sure the correct microphone and desktop audio devices are selected instead of the WH202A devices that showed errors in your log.
 • Speak into your mic and check whether the audio meter moves.
6. Test it

 • Open RDR2 and record for about a minute.
 • Check whether the game and webcam are still lagging.
 • If it works, you can experiment with higher settings later.
If it’s still lagging, go to View → Stats in OBS while recording and check whether you’re getting rendering lag or encoding lag. That’ll help narrow down the cause.

lmk if this worked!

1. The Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling ("HAGS") feature in Windows 10 is currently known to cause performance and capture issues with OBS, games and overlay tools. We recommend disabling it via this screen or these instructions as a troubleshooting step. Be sure to restart after disabling it.
2. Run OBS as Admin and then try to use Game Capture to capture RDR2.
3. Window, Game and Display Capture all interfere with each other. Never put them in the same scene (Screen and Screen W Webcam).

thank you both! I will let y'all know if it works. When it comes to audio can y'all help me with those settings as well? The WH202A are my bluetooth headphones that have a built in microphone, my webcam also has a mic but my monitors have really quiet audio quality.
