Question / Help Hello, trying to record old games

I'm using windows 8.1, I have Open Broadcaster Software v0.657b installed. I won't livestream videos, but I want to record and upload some videos to youtube. I first started with Doom BFG edition and it worked perfectly since it's not that old. But when I try to run ZDoom, Warcraft 2 or Starcraft Brood War, both game capture and window capture does not detect those programs while I'm running them. (since they are all working with DirectDraw I guess? I'm not too sure) And when I try to do monitor capture, the program captures a black screen (the game sounds and stuff are still audible).

When I tried to google about this problem, I've encountered some links:

https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/how-to-record-directdraw-games.21698/
https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/directdraw-dx8-capture-support.27/
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/streaming-older-games-solved.10626/

All of these threads say that there already is a plugin implemented into the program which can record these old games. But still my program does not detect when I run them. What do I have to do? Please help me. Also, alt+enter window toggle shortcut does not work on those games.

I'm sorry, I've checked the sticky threads just now. Posting the necessary log file so you can have a better time helping me.

Edit: Also this was written in OBS log analyzer:

" OBS Log Analyzer
Multiple video cards detected

If you are having problems and are using a laptop, see this thread for advice.

If you are using SLI or Crossfire, you may need to disable it for compatibility with OBS.

Excessive audio bitrate

Audio bitrates higher than 128kbps are rarely needed for internet streaming. Consider keeping the bitrate around 128kbps for optimal bandwidth usage.

Misconfigured Game Capture

One of your game capture sources appears to be trying to capture something that isn't a game. Game capture is only supported on games that make use of DirectX and OpenGL 3D graphics. To capture other programs, use window capture.

Double check all your game capture sources are set to capture the right games. Keep in mind you must be in your game before it will appear in the list of available applications.

Bad resolution / FPS / bitrate combination

The combination of settings you are using will likely lead to a low quality stream with artifacting and other problems. Consider either raising your bitrate or lowering your resolution / FPS (qval: 0.032)

Many older games simply still don't work with Game Capture. DX8 and older are iffy at best.

Only bit I can help with is for Starcraft, you can use Chaoslauncher to put it into windowed (or windowed fullscreen) mode, which is then capturable. I've done this one myself, a year or two ago.

ZDoom, no idea. Apparently there's GZDoom which uses OpenGL instead, which may be able to be captured. I recall that there was someone trying to capture the original Sims that ran into the same problem... essentially the game was simply too old to work (using DX7). I'd expect anything older than that to run into similar problems.

This is also one of the VERY FEW edge-cases where a capture card could be useful for a 1PC setup.

But I thought this was addressed with an already integrated plugin?
Thanks for GZDoom and chaos launcher anyways (even though chaos launcher is a bit problematic, small mode is too tiny, and I cannot see the top and the bottom of the game window in 2x mode), but I'm still looking for a solution about warcraft 2 as well.

Btw, there is also an another problem about my OBS it seems. When I try to window capture something, my OBS does not detect any windows AT ALL. Even though I have plenty open at the time.

The plugin was put into the base GameCapture source method, but won't work if the game is TOO old. Even the limited DX8 support is iffy.
I'm pretty sure Warcraft 2 (and starcraft, and...) are pre-DX8 anyway. At this point it comes down to figuring out workarounds.

Not sure about the window mode bit. Is the list of windows completely unpopulated? Have you tried opening Notepad, and seeing if it shows up in the list?
