Hello and quick question

Hi, All

I'm Rob AKA "Twin--Turbo" , just starting out with video and OBS. I have what I thought would be a simple question but have not found the answer.

Loving OBS, so good and so intuitive.

I want to remove a source from a scene, but still have it as an available source if I want to re-add it to the same scene or another. I know that if I have say a base sceen I can keep it on that but it seems strange to not be able to keep them ready to re-use.

Am I doing something wrong, or just after something unusual?

Cheers

Rob

It is possible to have multiple copies of sources in different scenes, but not to have zero copies. There's no Unused Sources Library. So if you remove the last copy of a source, it is actually being deleted.
Why does this feel strange to you? Why do you want to remove sources completely from all your scenes but still keep them? What would be a use case for that, where you prefer to keep an old source rather then to recreate it later? Note that you are not throwing away the actual webcam, window to capture or mp3 background music file... only some OBS specific settings. At the other hand, you don't have to use all your sources every time. So if you have a scenes and sources organisation issue, there might be other solutions...

As you already stated: if you want to keep unused sources, you'd have to mimic this behaviour yourself. Create a scene and give it a clear and meaningful name, ie. Unused Sources. Add all sources there that you want to keep (add existing). So either after creating new sources, or before deleting old sources, go to your Unused Sources scene and add those sources there. If this will involve large amounts, think of a system for yourself to stay organised, ie. order alphabetically.

You can toggle the visibility of sources by clicking the eye icon next to the source name.

or make a scene as temp scene where you add all your sources
next idea
make a scene per game and use advanced sceneswitcher so change the scene when the game starts !

So that It's always created with the same name. settings, etc. VLC media sources I have to get the URL each time to re-create the source.

I have just setup a Scene to keep them in, so it's no real problem.

Why would you create and recreate the same source over and over again? As mentioned above: when clicking on the eye icon you switch the visibility (and audibility) of the souce. When hidden there's no need to delete it... or do you have other reasons to do so?
