Question / Help Having odd issue.

OBS has been running fine, but something recently changed and i'm not sure what's causing it. I can stream just fine, the game sound transmits to Twitch as it should. However, OBS doesn't transmit musick like it used to. The meters in the Mixer column are bouncing like they ought to, there's just no sound coming out. No sound in the stream or on my desktop or headphones regardless of what settings i tinker with in the Audio settings on my PC or in OBS. Help?

A recent Windows update added permissions for access to audio devices. Have you checked them?

I have no idea about that. WHere would i look for such a setting? I have the option "Allow applications to have exclusive control of this device" UN-checked. Is that what you're referring to?

No, it's separate from device driver exclusivity, which is what that setting is.

If this is affecting you it would be in WIndows Settings > Privacy > MIcrophone.

Another thing to check is which audio tracks in the Mixer are set for stream output and which are set for recording-- it's possible you are streaming tracks you aren't recording.

Okay, OBS is not listed on the microphone apps list. Although, when streaming, my mic comes through just fine. I looked at the Mixer settings in OBS, but i have clue what tracks are doing what. They are all checked and nothing changes when i uncheck them in any random order. OBS still shows activity on the meter, it's just not broadcasting sounds other than the game and mic sounds. Which while the most important aspects of my OBS setup, and i'm happy that they work, i'm currently unable to add custom musick from my PC for an intro sequence.

The streaming output settings should choose one track to stream. You have to make sure each audio device you want included on the stream is in that track.

Recordings in mkv or mp4 can have multiple tracks. (Don't record in mp4). The settings in Output for recording list which tracks are recorded. When playing back the file, you'll only be able to hear one track at a time-- this is made for editing software that handles multiple tracks. If you want to be able to hear all tracks in a recorded video, you need to record a track that has all devices in it-- like the one you stream from.

Um... okay?

I don't record anything, i don't have the drive space to store it. It's all live. Again, checking or unchecking the track boxes doesn't affect anything that i can tell. I'm really trying to follow you here but it's over my head. All i know is that everything worked one day and now it doesn't. As long as OBS broadcasts my mic and the game i'm streaming, i guess that'll be good enough. Mayhap someday, WIndows will undo whatever it did to scew up my OBS. :P

If you're also not hearing music when you play, that's not really a problem caused by OBS. What program are you using to play music, and to what windows sound device is it going? Is it going to the same place as the game sound?

The musick works, as i can hear it in other media players on my pc, OBS just doesn't play it anymore, even though the mixer column shows it's playing, there's just no sound. So i know it can see and use the file, something just when awry with the sound.
