Hi, I'm currently looking at building a relatively cheap box dedicated to streaming, and would find great joy in doing it at the best performance to price ratio. I did see recently that quicksync was added to OBS and was curious as to the quality that would be attainable by using it.
I confess that I am not well versed in video encoding, but I did a little digging and it seems that the Haswell quicksync is supposedly a marked quality improvement over the Ivy and Sandy bridge solutions. This site seems to suggest that quicksync at 720p, and 1080p at lower bit rates, is on a par or close to the fast x264 preset? I could be very wrong here and these graphs have nothing to do with how OBS works at all, so please let me know.
If the above were to be true, would the most cost effective way of getting a decent looking 720p stream to be getting the cheapest Haswell with the HD4600? If so, it would seem that the i3-4330, albeit with the GPU clocked slightly slower, should be able to stream as effectively as a much more costly chip? My aim would be to be able to stream at 720p 60fps.
As I said, I am not very confident with any of the streaming business so may very well be off the mark with all of this, so any insight is very much appreciated. I also couldn't find many examples of quicksync streams outside of one VOD of "Remember Me" on Twitch, so if anyone actively streams with quicksync and could point me towards their VODs (and their bit rate) I would be very grateful.
