Question / Help Green -> Yellow -> Red light - Frames Fly [RESOLVED]

Then it goes back to green again. This occurs every 5-10 seconds or so. It's supposed to stay green, right? Or maybe I'm not understanding this program at all? lol

I just want to point out that in November/December when I started doing this, I had no issues at all streaming with a 1680*1050 resolution. I started getting issues right after new years. Maybe, what my problem is, is that I've updated to the newer versions without uninstalling the older one first?

I did a series of tests today, I added them here. I can look at the light and see it go to red, and the frames drop like mad. Even with all tests. Very frustrating. Not a single test stayed green. And I've tried switching servers also. Not during this test though.

Otherwise, is it possible to get a step by step instruction to completely wipe everything OBS related on the computer and make a complete fresh re-install?

Thanks in advance to any help! :)

Looks like the problem lies between you and the twitch server. You can try lowering the bitrate to around 3000 and see if it gets better.

You could try using low latency mode to minimize bursting.

The setting data is in %appdata% (paste that into your start/run), OBS folder, that's where all data is saved

Jim posted in a different thread answering my begging for help. :)
And, after the un-install and complete wipe of any OBS related files, I made a fresh re-install of OBS.

How did it work out? Well.... I'M BACK BABY!!!! :D

Running 1680*1050, quality 8, 4000/4000, 30fps... I had 3-5% frame losses for a 10 minute stream...

Then as a test, I lowered it 1,5 to 1120*700, quality 8, 4000/4000, 40fps... I had 0% frame losses...
I will try to up the quality to 10 and fps to 50, and see if that works out, just to see the quality.

All you helpers here, you are all awesome! This program will go FAR with people like you around! :)

Re: Green -> Yellow -> Red light - Frames Fly

Of course I cheered to soon.

Since the 9th, I've been in contact with my ISP to figure out why I get the network drops. After tests from their side and me doing tracerts, they came to the conclusion that the problem is not on their end. Their network is fine.

I'm still getting the Green -> Yellow -> Red lights every 3-5 seconds or so. I've taken screenshots yesterday to show what is going on while streaming EQ2 in charselect screen. There are no frame drops because I am not doing anything. But the network stability while using OBS is still acting up. I can however run anything in the background that will run smoothly with no hiccups on the network.

I just want to be able to stream, and it's not letting me. Very frustrating.

This last picture is to show what is going on when I run OBS...

I don't know what to do anymore.

Re: Green -> Yellow -> Red light - Frames Fly

Ok, this is interesting. Inkbot gave me an idea.

I used to be able to stream without noticing lag in my streams, so I went back to the version I used to use while streaming.
I think it was 0432a 64bit. (not 100% sure, could have been an earlier one)

Anyways, I downloaded, and tested running it. It did the same thing, shifting between the colors, BUT, super fast. (so fast that I never got to see the red color) Like it was on steroids. I lost about 200 frames during the 8 minutes I tested. Funny thing is, the stream lags I get today from framedrops I didn't get while testing this old version. You can't even notice the frame drops.

This is it. The setup was 4000/4000, 30fps, 1680*1050.

(Btw, excuse the chatter in the beginning, I had another stream running in the background)

Weird how that worked out, huh? :)

Re: Green -> Yellow -> Red light - Frames Fly

I'm going to mirror this, unfortunately I took a break from streaming and I was only using preview mode. Now using the latest version about every 10 seconds I get lag spikes. Low latency mode doesn't do anything. Using CBR helps elevate them, but doesn't completely remove them.

When I was streaming in december I didn't have this issue. I also went back to a earlier version of OBS when things were working fine (.461) and it didn't seem to fix it. I was pretty sure this was a ISP issue, but if you're having issues too then it's starting to look like a trend.

My ISP doesn't shape my connection and I have a 4.2Mbps upload, I stream at 3.1. I tried going all the way down to 2Mbps for a max bitrate and it still does this, so that's whats conflicting about this.

I watched your stream and the quality and consistency looks fine. Just to clarify, this is lag on your machine and not on the stream? In other words you get lag in game and in the OBS window, but your stream is fluid. For me, I don't get stream lag, but my ping fluctuates on about a 10 second interval.

Re: Green -> Yellow -> Red light - Frames Fly

I got massive frame drops after New Years, and it was clearly viewable in my stream. In my own view of the game while playing, I don't lag at all.

Happy to say though that the 0432a, 64bit version has been godsent for me, once I switched back to it. I still notice the color changes and some framedrops. In EQ1, rarely any drop at all, but in EQ2 the framedrops are more consistant. The funny thing about this is, is that you can't notice the framedrops in the stream, unless it's a massive drop that's going on which doesn't happen very often. Then you can notice the freeze in the stream.

So, for me I am very happy about switching back to this old version. I will still try out the new versions that's being released in the future, to see if any of them has fixes for me with the green/yellow/red switches, etc.

When the day comes and I can run with constant green light, I will be 100% happy. (Currently at 90%, because I have got it working, hehe :))

Hmmm, perhaps I'm experiencing a different issue from you then. Mine started around the same time frame though and has similar issues.

Well, you do get the spikes which causes the frame drops, even at lower resolutions. That sounds like it's the main common issue.

The 0432a version kinda made those spikes come x10 times faster, but I never see them go into the red anymore unless it's a massive spike.

How do you check your stream? I've just now, when I switched to this older version, learned not to look at the lights and frame drops anymore on the OBS program. It was making me go insane, lol. I check the recorded session on twitch when I am done streaming.

Re: Green -> Yellow -> Red light - Frames Fly

I give up... I've tried all these new cool versions, changing one thing to another... It just doesn't work for me... I really want to use them...

The only version that I stopped at, that I found that works is the 0432a, still... I get no framedrops... What changed between that version and later versions that made such huge horrible impact for me?

EDIT!:

There is 1 thing that I have noticed, that is not in the new versions. I have it blank because that's what it's been as default, and I don't dare change it, lol. If it has anything to do with anything. :)

Re: Green -> Yellow -> Red light - Frames Fly

I just want to apologize for my own stupidity.

I've been reading many times about minimize network impact, but never actually "seen" it. lol
Currently, I am streaming, using the latest test version, and using game capture. For the passed 42 minutes, I've had 0% drops. And the light, has remained green through out the entire time.

I don't know what the stream looks like, but I will check the video later. I bet it's great! :)

So, sorry again, for crying over nothing but my own blindness.

EDIT... actually, let me correct myself... just realized I had a completely black screen. Apparently homm 6 can't be captured, so been streaming that for 40 minutes, lol... Anyways, switched to software capture, but still looks very good. The yellow "flicker" once in a while, no frame drops as of yet. :)

EDIT2... Streamed for another 1,5 hours... I dropped a whole wooping 3 frames during that time. That's a TON better than the couple 1000 I used to drop with these new versions... LOL

EDIT3... Friday morning! Conducted a few tests... Seems like the latest test version (473b v8)cannot stream Homm6 using game capture, but 472b can. If I start with the test version I get a black screen, then try 472b right after, it results in that 472b also get a black screen. But, if I make a new scene and only start that with 472b, and restart the game, then I can stream it. 473b version 8 breaks it every time. (tests were made with preview, not actual streaming)

Or, I am just doing something wrong, again! lol

EDIT4... Streamed homm6 for another 2 hours today (Friday) using 0.472b and game capture. 0% frame loss.

I am ecstatic!

I consider my issue resolved. I retitled the thread accordingly.
