Question / Help Google Hangouts On Air with OBS instead of youtube live

I've got OBS and we've been streaming our Church services with ustream for a while...but I want to move to youtube streaming to open streaming to those who have blueray players or such with youtube.

So...we set up a youtube account, but as everyone knows the streaming option is not available for new users...it might take a year before they activate the live events on our user...so I've heard I can still stream with google Hangouts on Air in the same fashion, and that it will be on youtube as well.

The control panel in OBS, does it work with Google HOA? Is there a OBS tutorial by chance?

Thanks :-)

For youtube, I think it's available for accounts in good standing now, though I'm not entirely sure. Not sure about google hangouts though, haven't heard anyone using that.

Nope. I have a perfect standing account...but its brand new. I think it takes over 100 subscribers and other reasons that are not exactly detailed. Its almost random.

I have no clue how long we will have to wait.

So OBS and Google Hangouts on Air are a no go?

The 100 subscribers thing was just dropped a few days ago, at least for US accounts. I'm not sure about elsewhere.

Another problem is that Google will end your stream without warning if it detects a copyrighted song, or one they think is copyrighted. So if someone claims Amazing Grace, and its sung during your service, they end your stream. The Star Citizen people found this out the hard way when they sung Happy Birthday during a live stream.

Cool. Thanks guys.

I've just checked my account again and it still says "Live Events. You account isn't eligible at this time." I have a Canadian account...

Where did you hear this?

So, hangout's on air with OBS is not possible then? The hangout's on air stream on youtube...but through a google plus account. Not sure if OBS is setup to work with HOA?

So...looks like I just have to wait and see I guess???

Incase I'm waiting for a long time (what I suspect), i'm going to look more into the hangouts on air thing.

Found a tutorial on how to do this with Xsplit...so it should be possible with OBS???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8CsYAMrVk0

Basically, Google HOA uses your webcam to broadcast the stream... Xsplit has a feature "enable virtual camera output" what makes a virtual webcam so you can have that stream to HOA. In the HOA settings, you can choose the virtual webcam to output the video.

So...I'm using the projector function in OBS where I can see my stream on my second monitor full screen. If I can create a virtual webcam somehow, then I can just broadcast my second screen.

Any advice would be appreciated.

OBS doesn't have a virtual camera output function, unfortunately. It's been requested many times, but if it ever gets added, it won't be until after the rewrite is done.

Ok. So I guess I'll have to wait for youtube streaming then...when ever that happens.

Is there a ballpark time for the re-write?

Hi

I'm new to the boards and thought I might be able to help. Here's (in theory) what's possible:

Open a Hangout, private or on air, but DO NOT hit broadcast. You can but then of course you'll be streaming the HOA into YouTube.

Now use OBS to grab the screen, take that stream and feed to YouTube Live. You may well not have a YouTube Live account but that's irrelevant because you can feed the stream into any YouTube Live acocunt you have access to, simply make the stream private and then download and upload to your channel.

What I do:

  • Launch OBS and start the test stream
Launch a HOA (Hangout On Air)
    Bring in the guests
Capture the HOA as a screen grab
Push the feed to ANY YouTube Live channel

Now, if you hit broadcast n the HOA that stream goes to the YouTube channel for that page. If you then stream the OBS stream to another channel you have 2 live streams in effect.

Either can be embedded in Facebook, your website, Google or any website you choose.

Want to see a demo...? Hit me up or if OK I'll link drop.

Michael, does this impact your upload bandwidth twice? Once for the regular webcam stream and again for the OBS stream?

Will 5MBPS be adequate for a decent quality operation in this scenario?
