Question / Help Getting the best quality.

Hello there!

I'm curious to know what I would need to maximize my stream quality (and keep it stable) with my upload speed at 3.1/3.2Mbps - I stream currently at 720 with my max bit rate to 1500 and use CDR when streaming Star Wars: The Old Republic (MMO).

I just don't want the screen to be pixelated and grainy when I move the camera around and/or when I move around a lot.

My computer specs:

Processor - Intel i7 3770k (3.5GHz)
Motherboard - ASUS Sabertooth Z77
Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GRZ 560 Ti (DDR5)
Ram - 8GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance.

Unless my settings are as good as they can be. Appreciate the help!

I'm not sure what specifically I need to copy/paste on here that you need.

I'm guess on this:

Unsure if this helps and I forgot to set it to 720[

S'all good.

None the less, it looks like that's pretty much your limit. I'm not sure how much of a resource hog SWTOR is but I'd keep an eye on your % of CPU usage while playing the game. If you have some headroom, you can try gambling on the presets to a slower one.

Other than studying and testing out custom settings, your max bitrate is going to hold you back. If you increase it to 2500, you will see the quality increase but its until you hit 4000 that you'll finally and actually get rid of pixelation.

I've been testing for months with an 3570K and now a 3770K and no matter what I did on DayZ or FFXIV, it was always pixelated. Regardless of the presets I put it to on 720P@60FPS, and then i raised my bitrate up to 4000 and the quality during movements was increased pretty dramatically. Which also has me going down to the fact that people who have crystal clear crisp streams either have a second PC to stream off of or are running high Bitrate. Because i'm starting to not to believe that my PC, (which is stronger than most people who stream) and me having a higher bitrate than what they say are, getting better Quality than me xD.

None the less, you could always downsize lower than 720P and it'll also help.

I was told that I couldn't raise my bit rate higher than 1500 - I can't specifically say why, I honestly don't remember but doesn't it affect other streamers if I increase the max bit rate to those numbers?

I'm also using 720/30FPS, should I increase that to 60?

Call me naive but I think most people have an internet download speed faster than 5mbs. People will be fine watching if you have your bitrate set to 2500 or even 3500 tbh but you stated that you've got an upload of 3100 so 2500 should be enough headroom.

720/30FPS will give you better quality but it may look a little more choppier. I can't stand it personally and it bothers me so i never run 30FPS lol. You can try 48FPS which is a little smoother and better quality. As you hit 60FPS, you have more room for pixelation, gameplay will look smoother on your stream but quality will reduce if you don't have the bitrate for it.

All right, so what should the max bit rate be and the buffer size? I might as well experiment with this.

I was thinking of upgrading my Internet from 3 to 5 --- only a $10 difference it would seem as I checked it out.

Well usually you want to leave at least 10-20% of your upload rate available. However, I usually just go with 500 lower than my maximum. I'd also recommend testmy.net and pick the largest packet (33MB) and pick the server closest to you to make sure your MAX UPLOAD is stable.

Buffer size i usually go with double of what my Bitrate is, gives it a 2 second buffering which helps with quality.

I did as you say and my upload speed is 2.9Mbps - apparently better than the average. Ha, ha.

Okay, so I want to be 500 below from that, so 2400, then I want to make the buffer what, precisely? Should I still stick with 48FPS at 720?

Well the whole "500" below is just something I use personally. Just try it out and see if it you drop any frames or not.

Also, just personally, I usually go with Bitrate x 2 = Buffer.

30FPS/48FPS is only something you can decide, try them both out.

For most MMORPG games, I'd say you'll be better off with 30 FPS at that resolution and bitrate.

720p30 at 2400 kbps, with a faster preset, is quite acceptable in most situations during your gameplay.

Also, in your case I would not increase the buffer beyond 2400. Simply leave the custom buffer checkbox unchecked.

I've currently updated my upload speed and it's sitting at 4.7Mbps. Now what should I do for the stream quality? Still under 500 from 4.7Mpbs?

That looks like a really old log by the way, due to the fact that no entries have timestamps. If possible make sure to upgrade to the latest version.

The max you want to keep your bitrate is at 3500. You can however use 4000 if you want to but nothing higher since Twitch doesn't like high bitrates.

That being said, you should be able to go 60FPS now if you want but when all is said and done, the decisions are yours and if you like the quality of your stream :)
