Question / Help Getting Disconnected from Twitch very frequently

First off, thanks a lot I love obs.

Anyways, about 2 weeks ago I started getting disconnected from twitch very frequently, like sometimes only being able to stay connected for about 90 seconds or less. I immediately called my isp (comcast) because I assumed they were doing something. They assured me that they don't throttle or anything like that. They sent someone out to my house, who checked our signal and said it was great and replaced our router/modem that comcast gave us with just a regular modem. None of this ended up fixing the problem. Then i started reading and assumed that it must be because i usually am on WiFi, even though i streamed for hours at a time every day without a problem before.

So today i finally got all the ethernet cables out and hooked my computer up wired. The same behavior is happening. The connection will drop after a few minutes. Now I have no clue what to do, we were about to run ethernet cable through the wall and everything but it appears that isnt the problem?

I've tested on a wired/wireless connection, 3 different modems, 2 different routers. I also get like 15+ Mbps up and it still happens even if i try to stream like 2500kbps, id prefer to stream at 3500. The bitrate doesnt seem to affect the problem one way or another. Help! (I have logs of me streaming with no problem from Jan 26th, so this is indeed a new issue).

Im attaching my log from today.

ive done all that, well except i didnt have a rule for obs in my firewall but that doesnt seem like that would be the problem, i just updated that. I was hoping some of these network settings in obs might be able to help?

Ive already had the cable company out at my house. What exactly should I say to them to get them to help if it is their problem? You cant even talk to a tech on the phone, they were supposed to have escalated my case but they never got back to me.

Thanks, that whole log was with the network impact disabled, except for 1 or 2 tries when it was disconnecting. After this post i was trying to stream at 2500kbps with minimize network impact disabled and it was awful. If i connected to the LA servers (far away), it seemed to not disconnect me but it dropped like 80 percent of my frames until i tried to switch back to chicago. Then it started disconnecting me again, and disconnected me when i switched back to LA as well.

When im having stream issues if i run shaper probe it usually says i have packetloss for the upstream.

It has normal results regularly. ALthough I have noticed some times where my upload is super low, I think thats the problem actually. My upload speed just randomly (or constantly) drops. I dont know if thats caused by packetloss or vice versa. Like i just ran shaper probe right now and

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 880 Kbps.
Downstream: 88474 Kbps.

The measurement will take upto 5.0 minutes. Please wait.

Checking for traffic shapers:

Upstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 840 Kbps.

Downstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 61525 Kbps.

840 kpbs?!?! i should be getting 20mbps, and thats what speed tests will show (well 12+, more than enough to stream at 3500 kpbs). And usually shaper probe will show like 18mpbs.

I just dont know how to troubleshoot this I think ive done everything I can on my end, but I can't call and talk to a tech at comcast so I have no idea what I can do. I dont know what to tell them to convince them that their is a problem, I mean they already claim everything is fine on their end and they sent a guy to the house who said i have a good signal (again im not conviced that could been during the time where the upload speed isnt randomly dropping when he measured it).

Im setting up an account elsewhere than twitch right now to make sure its not just a twitch thing. Its strange that this just cropped up out of no where. I was positive it was my wireless but thats obviously not the case now that im on wired ethernet. What can I do other than stream to see this happen? It doesnt affect normal internet usage whatsoever.

edit heres the next shaperprobe i ran

DiffProbe release. January 2012. Build 1008.
Shaper Detection Module.

Connected to server 4.71.210.239.

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 11857 Kbps.
Downstream: 93451 Kbps.

Thanks, that whole log was with the network impact disabled, except for 1 or 2 tries when it was disconnecting.
OBS says that particular run was done with minimize network impact right before the typical collision hours and during that you've dropped 59 frames out of 6814 frames (or 227 seconds)

After this post i was trying to stream at 2500kbps with minimize network impact disabled and it was awful.
At what time have you tried that exactly?

every one of those parts of the log is just me getting disconnected and it autoreconnects, sometimes i change settings in between, that was literally the only time ive run with that checkbox on. Ive been running at 2500kpbs, i put it up to 3500 today because i figured everything is fixed because i hard wired my connection.

Ive been streaming fine before and then at like 3am on a sunday night ill start disconnecting. needless to say thats not some peak usage period. It's not really tied to time of day. I just signed up and streamed to instagib.tv to see if it was a twitch problem. Their streaming is a lot more forgiving, it doesnt disconnect you, ill paste that log below.

The reason you're getting disconnected on twitch is the same reason OBS is dropping frames on both services (not being able send the segments in time) whatever the bottleneck is it looks like it gets affected by the time of the day since today it's gotten a lot worse at 9 pm compared to 4 pm and that's really something that is outside of your control you should just revert back to what was working best for you before (setup everything back the way it was) and avoid streaming at peak usage hours and with a maximum bitrate of 2500kbps since more viewers can watch at that.

it doesnt get worse at night im telling you, maybe marginally. Im straight up not able to stream. When i was trying to stream to that instagib site it just drops frames instead of disconnects me, which makes it look worse. If you notice, my log from the last time my stream worked ok was at 3000 kpbs, over wireless. The only thing that was different was that I was playing in a window with 1 monitor, instead of not playing in a window with 2 monitors. But like right now im trying to stream rome total war 2. I streamed that game for like 8 hours a day over wireless with probably a 3500kpbs bitrate for a month with no problems, with it even being more taxing on my computer than it is now.

Its not a time of day thing, I could stay up til 5am and it would be the same thing, sometimes you just get lucky and it doesnt drop all the time. It started sometime after january 26th. My neighborhood didn't just get more people or something like that. right now its 11:30 on a tuesday night, if i start up obs and stream to instagib my log will look the same. Even if it is mildly affected by the time of day, its like im dcing every 5-30 minutes instead of every 90 seconds. Thats quite an increase over never ever disconnecting one time for months until recently.

So from what I can deduce it seems like theres frequent drops in my bandwidth to under 1mpbs and that pretty much causees my disconnects/frame drops. Thats quite a far cry from the 20mpbs up that im supposed to be getting. So basically I just need to call comcast over and over and complain to them that i cant stream myself playing videogames over the internet until maybe i get someone that cares? Although you cant even talk to their tech team....

Is there some type of thing that I could make up that might make them take my complaint seriously? Like Say im trying to do video conferences and i get dropped out of them all the time maybe? Im not trying to argue with you and i appreciate the help, its just ive spent 2 weeks pulling my hair out here researching and testing this, and its not a time of day issue because like I said its happened at 3am on a sunday night, and its also worked fine at 7pm. I thought it was a time of day thing too at first but theres no pattern. Sometimes I get lucky and can stream for an hour or so without a disconnect, othertimes its like how it was tonight. Either way, I didnt EVER disconnect until 2 weeks ago and ive eliminated hardware as a cause (unless like my motherboard is going bad, but i highly highly doubt that). I was hoping that some of those settings you arent supposed to touch in OBS would put a bandaid on the problem but apparently not and thats what im frustrated about. Well that and the fact that im going to have to call my isp every day and have them tell me everything is fine.

Why don't you just upload your whole log folder so we can read in between the lines and tell you for sure? The disconnects doesn't help make it look better it's actually legitimately worse at night according to those logs but yeah upload the whole thing.. Has all those changes only made the problem worse since it has been first introduced?

im running at a 30% frame loss right now to instagib, its past 12am. It was actually working fine with no dropped frames for probably the first 10+ minutes i turned the stream on, though the meter on obs was going into the yellow/red a little. this is with 3500 kpbs though. then it got so bad that it actually started disconnecting me which i think means i havent sent something in like at least 10 seconds. this started at 1am my time. shaperprobe says
Upstream: Measurement aborted due to high packet loss rate.

Downstream: Measurement aborted due to high packet loss rate.
speedtest.net said my upstream was 0.1 mpbs. ill upload my whole log folder if you want, but im telling you its not a day/night thing. If there is any correlation it is slight. Like my connection is fucked anyway but gets slightly more fucked at primetime. I simply cannot stream without starting to disconnect eventually and it is too frustrating for me and for anyone watching to even try. At least no ones trying to watch me on instagibb so im using it to test the issue. Ill upload my logs. Febuary 4th has logs from the middle of the night at 2500 kpbs, albeit on wireless but like i said the wireless wasnt an issue in the past and hard wiring my connection didnt fix anything.

Why am i not getting these game hooked in or whatever messages at the end of my logs from today?

What changes are you talking about with your question?

The fact that you got 0.1mbps at one point at speedtest.net and the fact that you're experiencing high packet loss rate at both links tells me that this is a physical layer problem (wiring most likely) and no it's not just "slight". Hours like 3,5,2,7am (even 4 or 5 pm when people are getting ready) has given you the best results, obviously still not really stable for streaming but then again it also gets better (or should i say less bad?) sometimes at hours like 8 pm it's just that the later is more prone to whatever interference is most likely happening with your line.

I was on the phone with comcast this morning and was able to get ahold of a tech department. The guy did some sort of reset on my modem and then pinged or sent packets or something that were 128k in size for like 10 minutes straight and only a few got lost, like well within acceptable range. This was while i had obs running and was dropping 50% of my frames. I was also getting only like 30 mbps down when im supposed to get 105, this was at like 9 or 10am. So they say everything is fine from what they can tell, but i was like look i know its not fine this just started happening and when i do speedtest.net and get under 1mpbs up sometimes (rarely, but sometimes) and run shaperprobe and it tells me im losing too many packets something is going on and i want my node and stuff looked at.

He said he wrote all the stuff on my account and that hed have a tech come out again, but then when i got transferred the girl said she didnt see anything on my account so who knows whats going to happen. I just streamed on instagibb for like the last hour or so without too much bad happening but hovering at around 10% lost frames. it calmed down from this morning but its not like 9 or 10am is prime internet time.

When you say wiring do you mean in my house or what? Because i want to know exactly what to tell the cable tech when he comes out tomorrow. Also when i would start like a speedtest while i was streaming it would make me start to drop frames, the guy on the phone was like download and upload are completely separate it shouldnt matter. im just like look dude when i start the speedtest it makes me drop frames, i dont know what to tell you. And i was like i dont think theyre completely separate because if you use p2p filesharing you can kill your download speed if your upload is too high and he said thats because it works differently using the same port and threw out a bunch of words that made it sound like he really knew what he was talking about. I have a degree in compsci but im not like a network guy so I dont know all this stuff. I just dont have a lot of faith in the techs because the last guy wanted to just hook up my 2 routers together and i was like what about port forwarding how will that work and he didnt know what port forwarding even was, so theyre just cable guys theyre not like tech savy. Plus theres like a foot of snow on the ground, its freezing and our line is buried. I just need to know what to tell him.

Is there any possibility that this could be hardware related with my own computer? I noticed just now that if i run a speedtest, one of the fans in my computer spins up just for the download portion. I dont really get that one.... I couldnt be like overheating something could i? I also have aero disabled (not even via obs now) because i have 2 monitors and it blacks out the 2nd monitor. I read that you should have aero enabled for game capture? which is what im using. That wouldnt cause the droppped frames/disconnects would it?

I also tried xsplit just doing the bandwidth tests and it was saying i didnt have the bandwidth (yellow light, not red) for 2500kpbs which again is ridiculous because im supposed to get freaking 20mpbs up.

Thanks for looking at my logs, but yeah thats what i was saying earlier. IT might get worse at night, but its not like its fine at 4am either. Sometimes I get lucky and can stream for a while. I stayed up all last night and couldnt stream for example...

I just need to know what to tell the guy cuz i already know hes just going to come here, check the signal, its going to be fine and hes going to say theres nothing he can do. Thanks
