Question / Help Getting choppy stream while GPU load with x264 preset

Hi, so my system is Core I7 7820x, 16GB RAM, 1080Ti. I stream via x264 (CPU), fast preset, 5000bitrate, 720p/60FPS.

My biggest problem is that some games just take 99-100% GPU usage, like Mafia 2 or R6 Siege, when this happen, I can see in OBS, that I'm not sending 60FPS to my viewers but only like 30-50FPS and it gets really choppy.

The only thing that worked for me in R6 siege was to set the game for 60Hz monitor and turn on Vsync, so my graphic card usage was like 60%.

Since I am using 144Hz display I would really like not to play games with 60FPS lock it is really not that smooth for my eyes.

What can I do now? Is there some way to fix this I honestly don't know why is this happening, since I am not streaming via GC but using my CPU, which is like 25-30% usage max while streaming. I think I might be able to fix it by using second graphic card and set OBS to use that (i have old GTX760) or by using plugin to OBS and use my old computer to stream that. But I would like it much better if some of you nice people would know how to fix this :)

If I've forgoten to put some info here, just tell me and I will add it.

Thank you for your time.

Jimmy

First of all you need an fps limit in your games (at least on an updated Win10 machine with OBS).
With that limit you can then change graphics details in your game to make sure, that the game will produce more than ~90% GPU load. Without an fps limit, it won't help to reduce ingame details, as this only results in more fps than in less GPU load.

If your system needs more than 90% GPU load while palying+streaming games with an 144fps limit, you can buy the new Nvidia Titan or a separate streaming PC or you reduce your ingame fps even further (try 120, and 60).
