Question / Help Getting black screen since latest update with game capture

First of all, thanks for the wonderful program! I've really enjoyed using it, up until today of course :). I do have a laptop so I read the sticky at the top concerning black screens with laptops, but things were working great until I finally caved and updated OBS after getting prompted each time. Now when I record, I only end up recording a black screen. I'm using OBS to record the video game "Path of Exile." I have made sure that both the game and OBS are going through the same, primary gfx card.

I know this is a long shot but I was hoping there might be an easy answer here since it seems so likely to be related to the update. I've already tried updating my drivers which didn't fix the issue, and that is just about the extent of "things I know to do myself with something breaks" so any assistance would be greatly appreciated :).

edit: I forgot to mention something that might be relevant. When I right click a menu (for example, the nvidia control panel icon in the tray) and select something (such as open control panel) then that part of the menu gets "stuck" to the screen unless I alt-tab to a full-screen game and back, or reset the resolution. It's a very bizarre bug and I can't help but think it's related to why OBS stopped working, especially since they started around the same time.

edit #2: here are the log files from today: https://gist.github.com/c8124caac38655e54fd2

Just a quick update, I was able to get it to work if I put Path of Exile in windowed mode then used "window capture" instead of game capture.

I also was hoping someone could clarify the instructions from the laptop sticky here: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/laptop-black-screen-when-capturing-read-here-first.5965/

They're somewhat contradictory and don't follow with how the nvidia control panel is laid out. For example, the step by step:

-> 3d settings on left

I assume they mean the "manage 3d settings" page here which is nested under the "3d settings" heading.

-> Global tab on the right

On the right, I see a "Global Settings" and "Program Settings" tab (which is to the right of the global tab). I assume they mean the Global Settings Tab, but that doesn't give you any way to change settings for a specific program.

-> Click the drop-down box below that, select the nvidia

Ok this one really confuses me. There is no drop down box below unless you select the Program Settings Tab, so I assumed that was just a mixup. However, even once we bring up that drop-down, there is no way to select "the nvidia." You can select OBS, though, which is what I assumed the intent was. Still, it's a very misleading direction.

-> Click the apply and OK

We still haven't changed anything. Apply what? Do they mean first selecting OBS in the dropdown list, then selecting the "restore" button which has an Nvidia logo on it? If so, that's about the most confusing way possible to say that, especially since another part of the guide says

"add the OBS.exe path to the drop-down list, and select it to use the nvidia ("performance") adapter"

which contradicts that completely and is also vague. Is the nvidia ("performance") adapter the selection for the "power management mode" option (you can choose "maximum performance") or a selection for the multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration? (you can choose multiple display performance mode, single display performance mode, or compatibility performance mode) Performance is in every option, it doesn't actually give you any guidance in what option you're supposed to select.

I don't mean to be ungrateful, I appreciate someone taking the time to write the guide, but it does seem like it could use some cleaning up because I have no idea whether I followed the correct directions or not. I sort of had to guess what they meant, and it's entirely possible that the reason I'm stll having the black screen issue is because I did not follow the directions correctly (for the record, I have multiple display performance mode and prefer maximum performance selected currently for OBS)

The parts you describe are 2 different methods, the first one only sets OBS to use the NVIDIA, the second one sets the Nvidia as preferred graphics processor for everything, so they are not contradictory.

On Global settings there is a dropdown where you can set the preferred graphics processor, this dropdown also exists on the Program Settings tab.

They look like this:

Thank you for clarifying. No wonder the directions were confusing me, then! I don't have that option in my control panel in either global or program settings. which I can only assume means I only have the one graphics processor and my issue is different from that.

Here is a screenshot of my control panel:

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing the black screen issue? Do I need to post more information/logs? Thanks in advance.

edit: I should note that I did try reinstalling my video card drivers already. While I can make it work using window capture and windowed mode, this is a lot laggier than game capture and in general I just hate playing games in windowed mode, so I'd really appreciate some tips on what might be causing the issue. It DID use to work, that's the maddening thing. I haven't made any drastic changes to my PC, really the only thing that's different is updating the program and updating my drivers.

Issue is with the new 64-bit DirectX 11 client on PoE. Had the same problem but I was able to use game capture again when I switched back to the DirectX 9 version. So maybe will be fixed when new 2.5.0 patch comes out.
